Its D-Day Today!

Two years after my filling came out, and the dentist put in a ‘temporary’ filling [They can last up to 6 months if you are careful, he said] we are actually going to see a New Dentist today. I hope it works out ok, but I am a little sad that we have been forced to use a private practice, after nearly 67 years with the NHS.

My Etsy shop has done really well, and I am pleased that there is a healthy balance in the Tooth Fairy Fund, to finance the appointments, X-rays, and most of the cost of the crown. I’m grateful to everybody who bought my oiseaux des fêtes before Christmas. People gave very kind reviews, and I had a lovely thank you letter* from one blogfriend. She didn’t have my address, so just sent it to me at Cornerstones, Swanton Morley – and it got here within a week [the joy of living in a small village] I don’t know if that would always happen, but well done Royal Mail!

Bob has closed his Etsy Shop, having sold all the prints we brought back from Essex- and sent a sizeable gift to St Francis’ Hospice in Gillian’s memory. My aunt was very pleased- although I don’t think she understands how he ‘has a shop on the computer’. I am reminded of the elderly lady back in Kirby Muxloe, who heard that a housebound friend ordered their groceries online- and thought that somehow if you typed in ‘milk’ a pint of the white stuff would come out of a tap on the side of the screen!

*the letter was on one of those clever “Pigeon Posted” sheets- one piece of card, folded origami style and sealed shut with a stamp. [watch the video here] I think I shall definitely treat myself to a pack of these, if I am going to do more Sunday Correspondence.

One side is decorated, with a space for the address, the other side is all plain for your letter. Do check out the website, and read the story behind the company.

  1. The folding letter/envelope is a clever idea. I hopped over to their website to look and they have a new set by print maker Angela Harding - who is brilliant - so I've ordered a pack!

  4. I had to laugh at the elderly lady and the milk...however I realise that many of the elderly just do not understand how you can order 'on line'. and the stuff magically appear at the door.

  5. Good luck at the dentist, it's an expensive time and you have done well being able to cover a large chunk of the cost with your Etsy sales.

I've just been over on the Pigeon Post website, unfortunately I was obviously stopped in my tracks from buying any by my Challenge, but aren't they lovely and I have noted down the website so I can ask for some for my birthday. What a genius idea and so beautiful too.

  6. Good luck with the D.

That paper looks amazing. I'm off to investigate. I may need to find a reason to write letters. Thank you for sharing.

  7. I do hope your trip to the dentist went well and that you are not suffering.

I love letter writing and still write to penfriends I've been writing to since my first year at senior school (year 7). The Pigeon Post website has been bookmarked for future reference ... it's a nice idea for gifts later in the year so thank you for sharing.

  10. My house also has a name, and sometimes I think that's the only line of the address the Royal Mail staff read! In a neighbouring village there is a house with the same name, but the rest of the address is totally different and the people who live there don't have a name similar to mine. Despite this, I sometimes get their mail, particularly at busy times like Christmas. In fact, this year I got a card for them which I immediately re-posted with a note on the envelope to say that it had been misdelivered to my road. Two days later it came back through my letterbox! I did some more scribbling on the envelope, in red pen this time, and so far it hasn't reappeared, but if it turns up a third time I shall take it down the Post Office and complain!

  11. So glad the letter arrived!
I bit the bullet-so to speak-and took out insurance for my dental treatment. Over the years it has more than paid for itself and even saved me money. I once had to pay a very large bill for treatment which I couldn’t really afford, so this was a better option.
Good luck with the new dentist.

  12. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek, good luck with the teeth! Ah, that IS sad about the NHS thing! I haven't been to mine since September 2019, MUST remake an appointment but I'm worried they slung me off the books!

    1. Yes you must try to get a checkup. Some dentists have been pruning their lists during the pandemic - I hope you are still listed
