Not Very Jubilant In This Village...
We went for a walk round the village on Tuesday evening and found just one scarecrow. A small Queen sitting next to a wheelie bin. Not much bunting hanging about. Yesterday evening another one appeared just round the corner. I do hope that today's special Family Fun Afternoon and the evening Beacon Ceremony are well supported. I am feeling a little despondent. Rosie came for a sleepover last night - she immediately recognised Greta Thunberg, and says "she tells us not to pollute the planet" But she wasn't sure about Prince Charles!
It's like that here, too. I put up my banner yesterday and since then one household has put out bunting. We're having a low key street party Sunday and I'll be going to a few things in Caistor (proclamation, beacon lighting) but there doesn't seem to be much momentum.
ReplyDeleteI cannot see that people here who arrive at the Village Hall at noon for the Family Afternoon will stay 9 hours till the Beacon Ceremony
DeleteI wonder if keeping the Queen scarecrow next to the wheelie bin is meant to be a statement of sorts! Poor Prince Charles not being recognized by Rosie!
ReplyDeleteI think she was expecting somebody wearing a crown!
DeleteDon't be too despondent! Round here quite a few houses are decorated. Kirby are having a number of events and Carey gardens are really going for it. We made a decision not to buy plastic bunting and have a small display of flags in window. Also judging by the news a massive number of people are away (or trying to be). All shops have sold out of red white and blue. Enjoy your jubilee weekend!
ReplyDeleteThe last jubilee event in Kirby was very well supported despite the abysmal, non stop rain and the relocation to the Church Hall! Rosie and I came home from the Villager Hall after a couple of hours and had fun at home instead [http://angalmond.blogspot.com/2012/06/sixty-years-of-raining.html]
DeleteWow! I remember that now! Was wondering what we did for last one. I could remember seeing Royal Barge at Olympics but not what we did on the day.
DeletePoor Queen. They could have put her in a better position!

DeleteI'd love to go to the Beacon lighting ceremony. I've always been fascinated by the beacons, and I once lived near a "Beacon Hill".
ReplyDeleteIt was fun watching ours being lit this evening
DeleteThere were lots of things going on in Hexham but due to my MiL getting back later from London and the weather being rainy, we didn't go to anything!
ReplyDeleteYour family rightly matters more to you than the Royal family!
DeleteThat's a dainty scarecrow - I love the colour of the cloak!
