Last year I was so very conscious that Auntie Peggy would not receive a card from Gillian [she'd kept dozens of such cards down the years, with Gill's special handwritten messages of love inside] Of course, Julian sent his Nana a card, and did what he could to make the day special. I telephoned her.
But now Gill's gone, and Peggy's gone too, and I miss them both. I thank God for them, and for the way they both 'mothered' so many - not just in our family, but through work with children in Sunday School, Playgroup, Beavers etc.
Yesterday I was blown away to receive a gift from Julian, with "Happy AuntieMum Day" on the tag. How incredibly thoughtful of him
Thinking of you on a bitter sweet day. Remembering with deep gratitude my own lovely mum, and those lovely ladies that we called"friendly aunties". Some were childless, but mothered us in a way that we will always remember. I hope your day is filled with loving things. Love Isabel
ReplyDeleteYes, I had "aunties" too - not relations but they were so kind, and many had no children of their own, so mothered us.
DeleteThat was such a lovely thing for Julian to do! Have a blessed and prayerful day, Angela.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bless.
DeleteA very well brought up and thoughtful man. What a lovely gift for Mothering Sunday. Catriona
ReplyDeleteHis Mum and Nana would be so proud of him
DeleteSuch a kind thing for Julian to send you a card. My aunt died in January, the day before her 94 birthday, it will be a tough day for her daughter today. Happy Mother's day to you.
ReplyDeleteThinking of your cousin today - the first year is always the hardest, when these special days come round
DeleteHis kindness made me cry. JanF
ReplyDeleteMe too, Jan
DeleteHow thoughtful of Julian to think of you when he is grieving too. Today is a bitter sweet day as its been a year since my Dad died, he was 93. Mum died nearly 50 years ago so it was just him and me.
ReplyDeleteOh Gill, I am so sorry - this must be incredibly hard for you. To lose your Mum when you were so young, I imagine that strengthened the bond between you and your Dad. And now he is gone too. You're in my thoughts and prayers 💔🙏
DeleteLove and good memories last forever.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
There remains faith, hope and love...and the greatest is love 💕
DeleteHow touched you must have been to receive Julian's card.
ReplyDeleteI was literally moved to tears
DeleteHugs. How lovely Julian remembered you. I miss having a generation older than me on these days.
ReplyDeleteIt is good to have friends both young and old...
DeleteOh, Julian!!! What a lovely thing to do. He really values and needs you right now!xxx
ReplyDeleteHe's thoughtful and kind, just like his Mum.
DeleteI'm late to this due to being away for a few days but wanted to say thank you for the lovely prayer.
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x.
