The stitching arrived from Kirsten on Thursday - details will be shared on Monday. My April piece was 'beach huts' - because of the warmer weather and recent trips to the coast. Plus the first Beach Hut I remember is the one Jean and Uncle Ted had at Thorpe Bay, Essex, where they lived in the 50s and 60s. Most days in the summer holidays they would all pack bags and walk down to the hut and spend all day on the beach in the sunshine. Easier and way cheaper than taking a dozen of them away on holiday! Then they emigrated, the 12 Ten Pound Poms - and had sunshine most of the year
Kirsten's 'flat gift' this month was also Australian. It is a Supoon, a nifty little gadget which measures out a teaspoon of cream, jam whatever, acts as a small spatula for clearing jars, and its kinked handle keeps the greasy bottom of the worktop! A lovely gift for my new kitchen, Thanks K! Enjoy the Vegemite Video showing it in use
Now all you need is for Bob to make a turntable. I think the marmite jar might pose a challenge to the turntable method though π€
ReplyDeleteVegemite jars have straighter sides. When my marmite jar is almost empty, I half fill I will hot water, and shake it, to get a rich umami stock to put in my casserole.
DeleteThat's what I do too; same for ketchup and sauce!

DeleteI meant to add that I love the beach huts and the BBQ ready for sharing between them...
ReplyDeleteEating together at the beach can be great fun , unless the wind blows sand into your food!
ReplyDeleteI spent a day at Lara's parents' beach hut at Walton-on-the-Naze and it was so lovely! Admittedly, we had quite a blustery and rainy day at times but having the hut was brilliant!xx
ReplyDeleteWe had a holiday at WotN when I was about 5. All I remember is that the little place we stayed in was a lot further from the beach than my Mum had been told when she booked.
DeleteHappy 100th birthday to your aunt!
ReplyDeleteLovely stitching as usual and I really like that supoon! But, not Vegemite or Marmite or Bovril!

DeleteWe used to have beach huts in Falmouth when I was a child, but none remain now. It was like playing dolls houses!
ReplyDeleteThey were so tiny and only the bare minimum of items could be housed
DeleteI love your beach huts. I've never come across any except in Britain, and they always fascinated me. That spoon is genius. I find my small spatula never works very well in emptying a jar, but like you, I will often use hot water to get out the last contents for adding to stock.
ReplyDeleteI can see the Supoon π₯π₯getting lots of use in my new kitchen π₯π₯
DeleteHappy 100th Birthday to your Aunt. What a nifty little gadget, but I'm a Marmite girl too. Although I did see Vegemite for sale in Morrisons today. Happy Bank Holiday weekend. Xx
ReplyDeleteBack in the 80s I remember a friend who came from New Zealand being very upset that she couldn't find Vegemite in our shops, and asking anyone who was coming to visit to bring her a jar!!
DeleteThe beach huts are great. Congratulations to your Aunt on her 100th birthday π. I prefer Marmite, but when my Uncle who was a £10 pom, used to come back over for a visit, he would bring a jar of Vegemite as he liked it so much. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteI'd never come across the little song before
DeleteHow lovely for your Aunt to be surrounded by her family on her very special birthday. Every good wish to her.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Marmite girl too!
