I've joined an exercise class! Every Thursday evening, I'm going to an Aquafit session. It is held at the pool attached to our Village School. There are about twenty of us in the group and Hannah is our instructor.
She's bright and enthusiastic, and spots if anyone is struggling with the moves. We range in age from teens [Faith, my friend's daughter] to OAPs [me] and at least two of the class have knee problems.
I've been doing it since September, its good fun, and I think its helping me feel better - less stiff, more supple. But some weeks I am so tired and have to really push myself.I think I may have been trying a bit too hard though. During one session, Faith's mum was a little concerned about me.
She whispered to her daughter "You've got life saving training. If Ang keels over, you've got to rescue her, she's one of the oldest here"

I did aquafit with a friend many moons ago when we were in our forties. We slightly ruined the benefits by going up to the cafe for cakes and lattes afterwards!
ReplyDeleteSadly the school pool is not equipped with a "caff"
DeleteCaring of her but ouch!
ReplyDeleteThe nice lady at Shenfield who runs the coffee and snack kiosk greeted me with great enthusiasm the other day saying she hadn't seen me for so long and said she thought I'd retired! I said, "BUT I AM ONLY 44!!!" 😂
Oh that's awful. She needs to get to SpecSavers
DeleteI love aquafit and have done a weekly class for years. I am 75 and not the oldest by quite a few years we have two 80 plus members and one 91 year old. I am sure you will feel the benefit. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteI admire any 91 year old who does Aquafit
DeleteI went to a couple of aquafit classes over 30 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter. Unfortunately I felt so unbalanced and unsafe in the water that I gave it up after a couple of sessions. A shifting baby and water did not mix!
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine doing it whilst pregnant
DeleteIt's nice to know that they are looking out for the 'oldies' in the class. ;-)

DeleteWell done, Ang. I really enjoy Aquafit classes and they are supposed to be good for older people as your body is supported. The downside is getting dried, dressed and home again in the cold weather! Catriona
ReplyDeleteThere is not much space in the changing room. And only one shower. Some women pull on a fancy "Dry-Robe" and leave instantly class ends. Some struggle to discreetly strip off wet cossies and dry themselves and get dressed - taking up a lot of space as they swathe themselves in huge bath towels in an effort to keep warm and covered. And others [like me] pull a sweatshirt and trousers over our wet swimwear, and drive straight home. It takes me less than 5 minutes. I dive into my own shower and Bob puts the kettle on!
DeleteWell, what can one say!!
ReplyDelete😉
DeleteThat's funny! Saving you from fitness! Rest is good, too.

DeleteSounds great all round, I really need to do something like this myself!
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
This one is relatively low cost and you only pay for the classes you attend (not a term at a time) The facilities are very basic, but the session itself is good.
DeleteGood for you, Angela!
ReplyDeleteI need to be properly committed to exercise, or I don't do it.
DeleteI'm not very confident in water, but really do need to do some form of exercise, just to stop me seizing up. Xx
ReplyDeleteFortunately it is the primary school pool, so its shallow. I can stand up almost anywhere except the deep end [150cm]
DeleteIf that's Swanton Morley School. I completed my 10,25,50,100 and 200 metres swimming badges there. 40 years ago now
DeleteThe pool building is that sort of age. That's fascinating! Did your family come from the village, or the RAF camp?(now an army barracks)
DeleteWell done going to these classes since September! Good to know that there are others watching out for you in case you need their help! :D
ReplyDeleteA friend in need is a friend indeed
DeleteNext they will be putting you in water wings!
