A Watched Pot

... never boils.
First thing every morning I make a cup of tea. But I find it hard to stand in the kitchen doing nothing waiting for it to boil. So I use those minutes to do something useful
  1. I might pop to the bathroom and clean my teeth
  2. Write a shopping list
  3. Match up the unpaired socks in the laundry bin
  4. Rip up yesterday's teabags - leaves into compost, bags into bin
  5. Empty the dishwasher
How do you fill those minutes?

  1. I stand and stare out of the window.
(I use loose tea; better flavour in my opinion, and no microplastics in the teabags. 🫖☕️)

  2. I usually brush my teeth while I wait for the water to boil for tea in the morning. Or, if I have already brushed my teeth, then, I might put away any dishes that were left to air dry in the dish drainer. Or, open the drapes and feed the garden cats. :)

  3. Wipe over the cooker hood, which is always dusty, sort out bread/soup etc from freezer for lunch. Like you I can’t just stand there!

    1. Sorting out lunch plans is a Very Good idea (preventing the "oh dear I should have defrosted that earlier" comment at midday)

  4. My husband is a sweetheart and brings me a cup of tea in bed each morning, so I read my favourite blogs while waiting, like yours.

  5. Sometimes I go to the loo whilst it boils or go and empty the compost caddy into the compost bin or get the mugs out and put the leaves in the pot but sadly only on non school days. School days are just a big panic to get out the door, no tea usually!

    1. I have always started the day with a cuppa, but when teaching it was a rush, and I'd be all over the place doing 3 things at once

  6. Watch the birds on the bird feeder while standing on one leg, then the other to improve my balance. Sometimes I also do push-ups against the door. I never have the time for full-on exercise sessions so I try to sneak in little bits here and there.

  9. I check if the plants in the conservatory need watering, or I just stand and watch the birds flying about, daydreaming. I empty the dishwasher in the evening. Regards Sue H

I'm another curtain-opener also front door unlocker. Then I put away last night's washing-up because life is just too short to waste it drying dishes.

  14. Sometimes I feed the dogs while the kettle boils but other times, if I’m only half awake I stare out of the window and watch the birds on the feeders.

  15. I open the blind, then the next job is feeding Sheva cat as she is always starving! I wash last night's glasses and clean her litter tray. Then wash my hands before I make our cuppa. Xx

    1. Last week I was feeding my neighbours cats as she was away. I'd put my kettle on, dash across to her house, then dash back to make my tea. In my pjs!! But it is a very quiet close...
