Harvest Lunch

On Friday, Kirsten posted about the few broad beans she had harvested which formed part of her lunch. On Sunday I was able to harvest one yellow courgette, and just a handful of strawberries. My mint is thriving [at last] so we enjoyed courgette and carrot coins with our 

gammon and potatoes after church, followed by a slice of cheesecake, garnished with a sprig of homegrown mint, and some chopped berries. The apple and pear trees look like they should have a fair crop, the figs are coming along slowly. More courgettes are on the way, also some pea shoots. And my potato tubs are looking very healthy.

  1. That's a good start to your garden harvesting, Angela. Our spring vegetables are over, except for the kale that is still growing well, and we are waiting for the summer vegetables to start growing.

  2. It sounds like your crops are growing well. My garden is mainly uneven grass but I am trying to encourage the local hedgehogs to visit.

  3. I picked 26 loganberries yesterday after 3 years of nothing. Gave it an ultimatum earlier this year. Seems to have worked. I've been picking rocket and Chard. Strawberries have been taken over by the loganberry branches which are vast. Blueberries are ripening. I've planted tomatoes, beans, peas and courgettes but no fruit yet though courgette has flowers. Our raised bed has been taken over by marigolds though!

  4. It is wonderful to grow edible things and harvest them. Sadly this year for various reasons we haven't grown very much. Looking forward to tomatoes and that's about it, our strawberries did seem to be coming on but they have been attacked by something and look most unappetizing. A neighbour has kindly given us some broad beans and a small cucumber which were delicious and they have promised us some runner beans when they come to fruition which will be wonderful. Your cheesecake and strawberries look delicious. What we do have in abundance are herbs, mint, sage, rosemary, two types of thyme, parsley and basil all flourishing. Regards Sue H

    1. Fresh herbs seem more and more expensive in the shops, so growing your own is definitely a good thing

  6. Think it'll be a poor show from my Apple tree this year, judging by the amount of empty branches. The blossom was so deceivingly proficient in the Spring. I've come to the conclusion that my pear tree is ornamental! Again, a profusion of blossom but only two fruits, one of which fell off! Rhubarb thriving at last bit other than that I haven't bothered with tomatoes or potatoes this year.
