...Cos A Sofa's Got Small Wheels
That was the first line of a very funny Joyce Grenfell poem I remember from my youth.
This past week, with both daughters here, they asked if we could possibly look after the 4 children while the four adults went for a meal in Norwich. So they all came to Cornerstones for a sleepover. It all worked really well, and the sofa was most useful. The second mattress rolls out on small wheels and rises up to make the L-shape into a big double-bed sized rectangle.
After pizzas, bathtime and getting into pj's, Rosie read Cat in the Hat stories to the Littl'uns. Then it was Film Night - we sprawled about watching Toy Story #1. The children went off to the bedrooms - George and Jacob shared the double in the back bedroom, Rosie and Jess in the front in ours. Bob and I put sheets and pillows on the sofabed, and slept in the lounge. Next morning they piled back in with us. Bob went off to fix breakfast. I love the way Rosie is quietly reading her book while the other three are busy snuggling and giggling together.
After lunch, Bob and I did the library run, then spent the afternoon 'reclaiming' our home - and putting sheets and towels through the washing machine.
The actress Beatrice Tanner [aka Mrs Patrick Campbell 1865-1940] described her marriage as "The deep, deep peace of the double bed after the hurly burly of the chaise longue" In my case, getting back into my own bedroom on Thursday night was "the deep, deep peace of the double bed, after the hurly burly of four excited children on a small-wheeled-sofa-bed"

That sofa is earning its place in your family home. I'm sure the grandchildren will have many happy memories of sleepovers with you.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a good purchase. And sticky finger marks wipe off very easily
DeleteWhat a lovely sleepover and I’m sure the parents also enjoyed their night out and long lie too. Sofa beds are very handy and we had a few different ones over the years when we had people to stay. If we downsize, we shall certainly buy a sofa bed in case of illness and one of us needing another bed for the night. We have a leather sofa which Norrie hates and never sits on but I like it! ReplyDelete👍 😴 🛌
DeleteWe had units for our sofa that were rearranged for us when visitors came. We used two sleeping bags zipped into one and I must say they were most comfortable. Lesley
ReplyDeleteThis is our third, and by far the most comfortable (and easiest to open AND has storage for all the bedding) it's not leather, just looks like it!
ReplyDeleteIt is such fun when they are all together....but you do need a bit of peace later!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely need a day off to recharge!
DeleteIt looks like that was a VERY good purchase, and it also looks and sounds like the grandchildren had a lot of fun while their parents galivanted for the evening. I bet the peace and quiet the next night and day was bliss though. xx

DeleteHow lovely to have both sets of grandchildren be with you while their parents got an opportunity to spend time together. Sofa beds are wonderful, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteA brilliant invention 🛌
