I got the embroidery machine out briefly on Saturday morning to do a bib for Steph's friend, who has a new baby. This year, I have done bibs for Edward, George and Henry - Kings' names are clearly quite popular at the moment [Do we know any called Cnut? asked Bob]
Then I decided to embroider my kitchen dishcloths. Ok, this is a bit OTT, but at the moment I am so sleepy I do not always know what day it is, or when I last got out a fresh cloth. This way I can be sure I have a fresh cloth every day, and Bob will know as well. [I need to get another pack so I can have a couple for the weekends too]
Oh - I just remembered something... Just before I started school, a kind lady at church gave me a pack of seven pairs of knickers for Christmas, labelled with the days of the week. One morning I went to the loo at playtime, and realised I was wearing the wrong pants. I felt so ashamed, and was convinced that the entire class knew. It was quite a long time before I realised that they didn't know- and anyway many of them couldn't read properly, so would not have been able to spot my mistake. But I still recall my embarrassment nearly 60 years later.
I bought my husband a pack of seven pairs of socks with days of the week on, convinced that it would please his orderly mind. He took great delight in deliberately wearing the wrong ones, especially to Pilates, where they were totally visible, just to confuse...🙂
ReplyDeleteBut did he wear ODD socks? The idea of going out on Wednesday wearing Tuesday and Thursday is quite fun!(if you put yesterday on left foot, tomorrow on right, they'd wear out evenly)
DeleteNo, he can't bring himself to do that! Would be fun, though 😊
DeleteThe story of your pants brought a smile on my face, even if I know it was not fun when it happened! I remember I wanted that kind of pants when I was a child, but I never got them. Maybe it was good, than I didn't make that mistake :)
ReplyDeletedh has socks with the days of the week on them. Makes no difference as they all worn whenever!! I love the older boys names, rather than the modern ones.
ReplyDeleteI remember going to Primary school at a time when we all wore belted macs. I was always a bit chaotic in the morning and I got to school, took my coat off, only to see that I had managed to forget to put my skirt on! I have no idea how that happened but I do know well that feeling of shame that you describe. :-)
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful AND a great idea! I do think those embroidery machines are a wonder!
ReplyDeleteYour story of the knickers is not as bad as mine: when we were in the Infants, e.g. year 1 and 2, we did PE in our knickers and vests and one day, in year2, the elastic broke in my knickers and they fell down in front of everyone. The laughter was so loud! I was mortified!x
Oh what a cute story about you at school and wearing the wrong pants and being mortified. I like your idea of labeling the dishcloths with the initials of the day.
