I have two lovely red resin Christmas decorations, which say Peace and Joy. They are about 8" long, and heavy.
I took them to Cornerstones and stood them on the unit which holds the TV. But then somehow, Peace never got packed away with the other Christmas stuff.
I stuck it high on the bookshelf, because I was too lazy to get down the loft ladder and put it away properly.
This was probably unwise. I said to myself "put it high, out of Rosie's reach" - but I forgot that the shelf can wobble a bit when you are pulling out a book.
I noticed on Tuesday as we were packing to leave that peace was broken. It looked as if it had fallen and cracked- and someone had carefully balanced the two pieces back on the shelf so the break was not obvious. It could have occurred any time in the last 4 months. I have no idea how or when it happened, and I am not really bothered.
Bob promptly took the two peace-pieces out to the garage and has stuck them together again.
He will complete the mend when we're next in Norfolk.
I quite like the idea of Peace Being Restored, it makes it more precious somehow.
I am glad that Bob was able to restore Peace! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely little post - I will remember this idea from carrying your restored peace visually in my mind.
ReplyDeleteBroken peace is still a place to live - maybe that's why it is an Irish proverb that says, “It is in the shelter of each other that the people live!”
ReplyDeleteThat's really a lovely thought. It also reminded me of that Japanese art of making broken china pieces even more beautiful.
ReplyDeleteComment from Sue via email - I hope that your health is improving gradually and that you are resisting seeing too many things that “ won't take too long”!
ReplyDeleteAn extra special post sorely needed in Sri Lanka at the moment and in our parliament as well as in the rest of the world.
It's easy to shatter Peace with one action or word. Restoration takes far longer and a particular kind of glue made up of apology, forgiveness, tolerance, love, etc. etc. is needed.
Thanks Sue for this comment- yes, we forget how easily peace can be shattered - and how long true restoration can take.
