Today is the final day of the Olafur Eliasson Exhibition at Tate Modern. The installations are intended to help you become aware of yourself, the people around you, and the world beyond. There are rooms with rain, rainbows, fog... Liz took Rosie, and sent me this amazing photograph of the pair of them walking through the fog room.
I have spent ages looking at this picture. There is so much in it to think about.
Intrepid Rosie, holding tight to Mum's finger, not afraid to step into a world she cannot see.
What is she thinking?
"I will be OK because I know Mum is right behind me, and I'm holding her hand"
"Come on Mum, we can do this together"
"I have no idea where I am going, but that is not going to stop me..."
Liz said it could be seen a metaphor for parenting ... your child goes off into the unknown, and you hang on, and hope to keep them safe.
I remembered the prophecy of Isaiah 11, talking about that day when the Messiah returns
"The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together AND A LITTLE CHILD WILL LEAD THEM"
And then I thought of Minnie Louise Haskin's words [read them in full here] about the man at the gate of the year "Go out into the darkness, and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be better to you than a light, and safer than a known way"
At the beginning of this new decade, I think we all need courage and faith to move forward, don't you?
It really is an amazing photo, Angela, and it is all what you said Rosie might be thinking and what Liz said, too. Thank you for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo and really interesting post!
ReplyDeleteSO many thoughts from one photo. I would love to know exactly what Rosie WAS thinking!!! I agree we do need courage and faith!!! So much fear at the moment, esp with Australia fires after the Amazon ones!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful photograph, and so many thoughts and ideas could come from that. It reminds me of some of the 'resources' used in free writing classes. I'm sure everyone would see something different.
