It seems that everyone in the family is having a wardrobe sort out.
Bob has sorted through all his teeshirts. Two from 2004, our Silver Wedding trip to the States, have finally gone to the ragbag, totally "worn out". Others have been designated not good enough to "wear out" [ie out in public] and will become either pj tops, or "Old clothes" for messy jobs.
Steph has had a major sort, recycling old bras for charity, and selling some stuff on Vinted.
I took it to bits - it was indeed very holey. I found I could make a piece 50cm square from front and both sleeves.
I sewed it into a tube [25 x 50] the same size as my buff. I hemmed to edges on my overlocker. I even managed to include the Howies logo! 
We often swap garments with one another before they go to CS, Vinted or the ragbag. And mending and remaking are too important skills.
Liz finally admitted her costly Howies cycling base layer [bought pre Rosie, a decade or more ago] has too many holes to be wearable. The merino fabric IS really warm. Could I make it into a neck warmer?
Nobody could accuse our family of being wasteful with our clothing!
Brilliant job on the neckwarmer and I retire T-shirts for dusters when they are beyond wearing. I have just inherited 5 cardigans from my daughter which will make a great extra layer in the house and one with the label still on which will be used as Spring comes.Happy weekend! Catriona

DeleteI do the same here and just now am having a hard time demoting a PJ tee to a dust cloth. It's just SO soft!

The problem with the printed ones is that the front stays stiff, even if the back and sleeves go so beautifully soft!

DeleteI'm sure that neck warmer is lovely and soft, coming from a well loved garment. Remaking clothes is so satisfying. I wish sewing was still taught in schools. Even the most basic mending can add life to a garment.
