And don't worry about domestic issues.
There are lots of interesting food leftovers following the family visit - some "Dino bars" a bowl of plums, half a carton of oat milk, and some "squirty cream" . There are lots of cherry tomatoes, walking onions, salad leaves and rhubarb in the garden. Plus a bag of potatoes in the garage, frozen home grown beans, and a chicken in the freezer. Plenty of possibilities for interesting meals there.
Yesterday Liz made me have a rest, while she did a fantastic job of tidying the kitchen [thanks Liz]
The floors are a concern, little dirty footprints on the laminate floors, crumbs on the lounge rug, and a very grubby kitchen. And as I sit here typing this, I can see a Sylvanian sideboard under the media unit, alongside a yellow rubber duck!
All the family brought sewing requests - and the dining table is out of action under piles of fabric alongside the sewing machine. We've eaten so many meals outside recently!
But today we both need to rest and enjoy the peace and quiet...
There is a time for everything.
ReplyDeleteYes there Is!
DeleteI love the wisdom of Snoopy. (Which reminds me I was listening a story on the radio in the middle of the night - tells you how bad things are at the moment - and it was a modern retelling of the Story of Solomon - really very good and thought-provoking. Bible stories never go out of fashion.) Anyway I need to take Snoopy’s advice, all of it but especially the resting this afternoon as I’m expecting a log delivery and will be stacking 2 metric cubes of logs this morning. I will get into a rhythm, put some music on and dance while I do it. My mum’s best advice was that housework isn’t going anywhere and will always be there tomorrow. She had a demanding full time job, three children, we had a large beautiful and productive garden and another of her famous sayings was: I could no sooner fly to the moon than not cook a proper dinner and sit down to enjoy it! Put the sewing out of sight while you put your feet up and watch the Paralympics as we intend to do this afternoon and think about what to have for dinner. I think I would spatchcock the chicken, make a marinade with rapeseed oil, Dijon mustard, chopped up EWO and any herbs you have in the garden and roast with the potatoes. Serve with green beans on the side. There will be plenty of leftovers for cold chicken and salad and chicken mayo sandwiches. And breathe … Sarah in Sussex.
ReplyDeleteBut first, thaw out the chicken (I love your suggestions though)
DeleteAnd make sure you do rest and enjoy the peace and quiet. Take care both. Catriona

DeleteIt’s exhausting isn’t it, but lovely to see everyone. My dad was fond of a little quote,
ReplyDeleteHow nice it is to see
Our dear relations come to tea.
But nicer still to know
That when they’ve had their tea they’ll go.
Great poem, I must remember that one
DeleteI'm glad to hear that you and Bob are resting. That was my prayer for you, and an old song came to mind as well (I can't find it on-line though). It is "God has called you, He will not fail you."
ReplyDeleteThank you ❤️
DeleteIt is wonderful to have family visits but oh so blissful to get to normal. We had visitors last week but are now just us again sigh of contentment. I seemed to be cooking all the time or preparing food or serving food, last night we had beans on toast, wonderful. I hope you both have a quiet and restful day. Regards Sue H

DeleteForget everything for a day. It'll still be there tomorrow. xxx
ReplyDeleteOnly with a little more dust...
DeleteSending belated best wishes for a rapid recovery to Bob - & to you. Try to be "blind" to what needs doing (I'm VERY good at that!) and rest. The house will still be dusty...

DeleteMy house looks like a bomb went off and as I walked across my kitchen floor this morning I could tell it needs to be mopped. But we are leaving for the weekend festivities this afternoon so I'm going to ignore it until we get back!
ReplyDeleteTerri, my prayers are for a fabulous wedding for your daughter and a happy time for you all ❤️πππ
DeleteSnoopy is very wise! Yes, do take it easy and rest. The work will wait.

DeleteRest day for us too.... 'never do today what you could leave until tomorrow ' doesn't sound quite right but suits me!
ReplyDeleteI certainly feel better for taking it easy
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had a good time. Have enjoyed reading about it. I expect that in the future you will have a good laugh about the boot! Like everyone else said - enjoy a bit of down time
