A Foat? Whatever's That?

It's a new portmanteau word, I told Bob. Ferret+stoat? Fishing+Boat?  Nope, it is a Funnel-necked Coat! I kid you not, it was in Red Magazine

How ridiculous is that name? Whatever next? Pumper = polo neck jumper, Rardi = round neck cardi.
Netmums suggest this cream one from Sainsbury's for less than £50.
No thank you. Not with a silly name like that!
Furthermore, knowing my clumsiness, a cream one would be besmirched with coffee stains, or worse, within seconds of being put on. They do it in a few other colours, including "this season's Must Have brown twill"
Being told something is a Must Have puts me off buying it.
Wrap up warm, everybody - and don't worry if it is the comfy garment you've had in your wardrobe for months [or years] and keep your hands warm with Loves or Witts [leather gloves or woolly mitts]

    1. I suspect that on my shorter, rounder frame it would look like a dressing gown

  3. I bought myself a new coat a couple of weeks ago. I bought it from the jumble sale I went to. It cost me 50p it's a sort of pinky brown tweed. It's warm and smart looking.

  4. Would my old dog walking anorak be my danorak? Or dogorak? In any case, this beautiful coat wouldn’t look like that for very many walks!

    1. I think the danoraks were the lifelong enemies of the ergotrons

  5. There's far too much brown around this season - my least favourite colour, very dull.
The coat looks nice and warm, but the name is just silly

    1. I wore so much brown in the 70s l, but cannot imagine doing so now (apart from my best pjs, the colour of dark chocolate)

  6. Actually, I rather like it. I might not wear it as shown in the first picture, but, I'd definitely wear it as shown in the second picture. I wouldn't care what it's called as long as it keeps me warm. :)

My absolute must-haves for a winter coat are that it has a hood and is fully waterproof.

  8. Not for me, I have a very short neck so I would look all bundled up. Stupid name too. Some of my outer wear is ancient but still functional so no new coat this year. Regards Sue H

  9. I thought it was a dressing gown! I can’t stand anything up round my neck like that and also don’t suit brown at all. So, I’ll get my black puffy coat out and look like a small tubby penguin as usual. Catriona

    1. Apparently puffy coats are fashionable this year too. Especially those padded with FLWRDWN. Yes, really- it's an eco friendly filling made from dried flowers rather than goose feathers!

  10. I'm still coming to terms with 'shacket' (shirt and jacket).
I indulged in Temu and got a long, wide, hooded sort of dressing gown shaped coat made of soft plush material that is insanely warm and while more expensive than I would normally pay at just over £25 is perfect for snuggling in when I don't want to put the fire on.

  11. Thrift store and freecycle are great sources! For your warthing. That's warm clothing.

  12. I would love a cream wool coat, but, dirt attracts itself to me, I am a truly mucky pup. As for the weird neckline, just daft. Carole R

  13. Words! I have seen a 'scoat' somewhere, which is a coat with a scarf inbuilt. Not sure that scoat sounds at all inviting!

  14. I bought a vintage Jaeger, mustard yellow, long, wool duffle coat. A warm hug of a coat, with a hood, for £30. Now I want to wear my wellies and stomp in the fallen leaves!

  15. Isn't it daft the way these made up words are forced onto us? That coat would look awful on me too, I'll stick to my fleeces in practical colours. I loved your tongue in cheek made up words btw πŸ˜‚

  16. I bought a red wool winter coat from a charity shop a year or two back. It wasn't cheap but it has a heavy lining and a luxury feel about it for so much less than any retail cloth coat would cost. I like that cream coat, but it would soon get grimy, for sure!

    1. A good woollen winter coat makes me feel warm and smart

  17. A very unpractical colour, like you I would definitely spill something down it, but the neck would make me feel like I was being strangled. My winter jacket is bright yellow with blue lining made by Falmers and bought in a charity shop for £8. Brown is such a dreary colour, reminds me of all that tweedy brown furniture when we got married in the 1970's. Xx
