It will not always be like this,
The air windless,
A few last leaves
Adding their decoration to the trees’ shoulders,
braiding the cuffs of the boughs with gold;
A bird preening in the lawn’s mirror.
Having looked up from the day’s chores,
pause a minute, and
Let the mind take its photograph
Of the bright scene,
- Something to wear against the heart in the long cold.
Ronald Stuart Thomas

Pause a minute....
ReplyDeleteYes.
I love the idea of something to "wear against the heart in the long cold"
DeleteThank you for this lovely R S Thomas poem. It’s perfect for right now and shall think about it if we get sunshine and blue skies today as a backdrop to our beech and amelanchier trees. Charmaine

DeleteA beautiful poem, but I had to look the author up. A Parish Priest in Wales, who lived in a tiny unheated cottage with his wife and child. I had never heard of him. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Gill. I knew he was Welsh, but no more than that.
DeleteI live in America. I read the first line of the poem and burst out crying. I'm going to recite this every day until it is true. ❤️
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for what you are going through right now. Be strong and have faith, keep hope in your heart. .These things shall pass...❤️🙏
DeleteThat is beautiful ... the tree and the words.
