Last weekend, Jon brought Jess up to Norfolk so Rosie and her Bestie could have fun sans siblings. We looked after Jess on Saturday, and went into Norwich in the morning.
We began in Castle Mall, where there was a Toy Story Event
Overhyped and underwhelming. Jess went into the ball pond to find a magic red prize envelope. As far as we could tell, the cards inside all read "Sorry, no prize this time" or "You have won a free cup of coffee". Jess had the former, a number of grumpy children near us were saying "But Mum, I don't like coffee!" You could queue to be photographed with a real live character. But the line had about 30 people in it, no sign of 'character'. I asked nicely, and the assistant said yes of course Jess could be photographed in front of the cardboard cutouts.
We decided to go and do some history instead, and took Jess to show her the Castle now it has been refurbished. She loved the banquet in the Great Hall, and dressing up as a medieval princess.
In the gift shop, Jess tried on a medieval head-dress. [£15] It was time for lunch, so off to Christophe's Crepes
Then home, to make first a Father's Day Card for her Daddy, and second, a pointy hat! We used Grandma's sewing machine. And had a quick maths lesson- Jess learned to make a cone shape using a circle. She is growing up very fast!
Have you seen any of the Toy Story hype?

Jess looks adorable in her smocked dress. I can't say I've seen any of the hype for the movie and no I haven't seen any of the Toy Story movies.
ReplyDeleteA shop assistant told her she looked like a princess. She beamed, and said "Grandma made my dress, and it was my Mummy's"
DeleteMaking the best of the day.
ReplyDeleteNot that ancient by the way, our neighbours had a wooden two seater in the privy down the garden, a smaller oval for a child to use. The memory is very clear of sitting next to stout Mrs N, who was the infant teacher at the village school. Main drains arrived in 1962.
When I told Rosie that 60 years ago, my friend had a loo like that in her garden, I'm not sure if she believed me, or wondered how grandma had been around so.long!
DeleteOh no! I was in my first year of A levels in 1962. Where did you live? I am guessing somewhere north and isolated? JanF
DeleteNo, I was here in Norfolk in a market town( not rural isolation!) Less than 6 miles from where I am today
DeleteWe are babysitting so Iris can be taken to see Toy Story, I don't think small babies and cinemas go together very well. Jess looked lovely in her dress. Xx
ReplyDeleteThat is Very Good of you!! I hope Iris enjoys the film 📽️
DeleteIt must have been fun for Jess and for you and Bob to have her on her own, and of course Rosie benefited by having a one-on-one with her friend. I think the castle was the better event by the sound of it.
ReplyDeleteSo much to see and do
DeleteSeeing Jess in dress-ups at the Castle reminds me of when I went there with my oldest granddaughter long ago. At that time, they had dress up things, too. I have a photo of her sitting on the regular throne (not the other one...) wearing her 'ermine' cloak and lopsided 'gold' crown. Hard to believe she is now 25 years old. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd my aunt in London had the loo down the back garden...hated going there at night. Along with having to use the scratchy wax toilet sheets that one had to rub violently to soften before using. Ah, the good ole days??
There was Izal and Bronco hard paper loo rolls lback then. Older relatives used to tell me that they had to cut squares of newspaper and thread them on a string....
