A Tight Situation

Last autumn, my friend Wendy gave me a challenge - could I make her some "tidy bags" for her tights. She wanted to separate the navy from the black ones, as it is sometimes a challenge to work out what colour your tights are, first thing on a winter's morning. I made her a set of three bags

At the time, I thought I should make some for myself. It has taken me a year to get round to it!
But when I did my summer/winter clothes sort the other week, I realised the tights were all a bit jumbled up. I tipped them out onto the bed in a tousled heap
I found some more fabric samples in the Stash, and chose three which went well together. I chose three buttons - black, blue, and brown, and made my bags,.
Then I sorted the tights, darning small holes in some of them, discarding others which were beyond repair. And all is neat and tidy now! Blacks, blues and 'others' segregated and packed away

  2. Great idea! I have a massive straw bag full of tights and leggings but I barely wear tights now! Not sure what to do with lots of them! I gave some away to friends who don't mind second hand but other than that, feel very guilty.x

    1. Google "uses for old tights". They can be cut into rings and used to tie up plants (or ponytails) Shred them for toy stuffing, cut short to make "pop socks" cut each leg into a long spiral to make "yarn" ...

  3. Well done!! Mine are not as fancy as yours-just some old pillowcases cut down with a drawstring in them and a little dot of the appropriate colour made with a permanent marker. Catriona

  4. I like the fabrics you have used for your bags. This is very commendable and I love the idea but I know I would start off being very good and sticking to the plan but before long I would end up with all the bags full of mixed tights! Regards Sue H

  5. Well done! Since I don't wear tights, that's one less thing I have to keep sorted! :)

  6. My sister and I have recently been sorting out our mum's wardrobe and drawers with mum who celebrated her 98th birthday last week. I have been given my grandmother's stocking bag. It has her maiden name on it, so she must have had it at college when she was training to be a Salvation Army Officer. It is white with lace edging.

  7. Your fabric bags are lovely to organise tights especially those blue and black ones.

  10. I used to have 2 compartments for my socks -one for ankle socks and one for knee high ones. I can’t tell you how long it used to take me in the half light of dawn trying to work out which were navy and which were black. Now I have one compartment for black and the other for navy as I can easily tell what length they are. Why did it take me 40 years to work this out? Nicky K
