Bob's father was such a generous Grandad. He always gave the girls such thoughtful gifts, often pjs and dressing gowns [as well as lovely books]. I kept the red 'Mickey Mouse' dressing gown from the 1980s. And when Rosie started having sleepovers at Cornerstones, it became a favourite garment. She wore it after her evening bath when she snuggled up for bedtime stories, and often again in the morning to eat Grandad's famous breakfast pancakes
But last week, we passed another family milestone - both girls came for a sleepover. So now Rosie has moved on to the larger red dressing gown [towelling, with a hood] and Jess wore the Mickey Mouse gown. To be honest, both garments currently have plenty of "growing room" and I shall have to hem the smaller one for Jess [its a bit of a trip hazard - note how she lifts the hem 'like a princess'] . But how they both loved donning them when they got out of the bath.
We used to all get together at Christmas; my grandmother, her three children and their spouses and the eight grandchildren, all crammed in together for a couple of days (we had bigger houses!). One year all the grand children were given red ladybird dressing gowns by my grandmother, and the larger ones were passed on through the younger grandchildren for years.
ReplyDeleteAh, don't they look cute! The red really suits them. Oh how I miss sleepovers at my Grandparents' house! I love that these dressing gowns have been loved and reloved! Kx
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to (temporarily) shorten the small one and adjust belt loops on larger one before the next visit though!
DeleteIsn't that just fab. The girls look so lovely. There is something about red dressing gowns that look so warm and comforting. Our sons when boys had red ladybird ones. Pancake breakfasts just the ticket. A lovely post thank you so uplifting after the madness over the pond of yesterday and the dreary November weather. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteA little joy to brighten the day!!
DeleteAww they look so lovely in them, and it must be giving you such happy memories seeing them in use again, AND of course this will give the girls happy memories for the future, especially all being in dressing gowns and enjoying Grandads pancakes. Hand-me-downs (gowns) are just wonderful.

Delete'Handmedowns' have a special feel about them, knowing they have been loved by a family member. My grandson's knitted cot blanket was originally his father's cot blanket, kept lovingly over the years.
ReplyDeleteA lovely piece of tradition. And cot blankets don't get too much wear. so they can be handed on...
DeleteThe Girls are so cute, as is your title.
ReplyDeleteMy mother put a long zipper in my son's dressing gown; so much easier than a tie which didn't always stay together. And warmer, too. ~ skye
I am not a fan of sewing in new zips [I've just done my neighbour's winter coat for her. It's taken ages] But I can see that it would at least keep the d/g fastened up!
DeleteWhat a special photo in the dressing gowns. Leanne was given a pink fleece sleeping bag with sleeves and when she started walking, the bottom part came off and made a dressing gown that she wore until she was nearly four and she was given a red fleecy one which did her til she was around eight. She still loves her dressing gowns-her newest one is at least 10 years old and is white hooded towelling from the White Company. I got is greatly reduced as it had a huge footprint on it! Some neat Persil gently rubbed in and then a hot wash and it was gratefully received as part of her Christmas. Catriona
ReplyDeleteThe girls never wear DGs at home, just at grandma's
DeleteGood to see the two little charmers in their red cosies! It must fun to have these ready for them whenever they visit.
ReplyDeleteAbsolute charmers😊
DeleteAw, they look so cute in their "hand-me-gowns", enjoying Grandad's pancake breakfast! :)
