Kung Hei Fat Choy!

That's Happy New Year in Chinese. We have had a special Chinese Day at school today, and I was booked for a morning's supply Cover, so got to join in the fun.

Kathy put a display in the entrance area...

After a brilliant assembly, when the Year Ones told us the story of the animals giving their names to the years, and a visiting Chinese lady showed us lots of special Chinese New Year items, I worked with groups to make dancing dragons

The owner of the Chinese takeaway just across the road from school came in, and taught all the pupils to use chopsticks, and gave each child a set - and a fortune cookie.

The children had the option of Chinese food at lunchtime - and we enjoyed a superb buffet in the staffroom.

buffet The children and staff had all been instructed to wear red, as this is traditional.

So I borrowed a wig from my good friend Lynda, and entered into the spirit of the thing with enthusiasm. My nose remained resolutely red as well!

The Head says she will never think of me in the same way again, having seen me with red hair. Other colleagues think I should dye my hair this colour permanently! One of the Governors, who had come in to help with the activities said "And they tell me your husband is the minister at the chapel ??"

Can't see why she was surprised - the Rector's Wife [also a teacher at the school] spent the day in a pair of fabulous Chinese embroidered silk pyjamas and dressing gown!
