In The Pink [Come Back Mrs Cradock!]

I suspect I am carrying the September ‘No Waste Week’ and Froogs ‘Stoptober No Shop Month’ a little too far. One of our meals earlier this week was …a little strange…

DSCF4682It all began on Sunday. I was preaching about the Church being the Body Of Christ, and each of us is a part of it. I wanted to show the kids that we often use more than one part of our body to complete a task. For instance, eating – we don’t just use our sense of taste to determine what we are eating.

So I asked for volunteers to try out some foods. Sophie and Jessica looked at the dish above and predicted it would be strawberry mousse. Then they tasted it and declared it to be mashed potato! I admitted to the congregation that I’d actually made rather a lot of the pink mash, and I hoped Bob would not return from the Lake District in my absence and help himself to the bowl in the fridge by mistake [Thank You to Matthew, who promptly tweeted him a warning!]

But I could not bring myself to waste it. So I combined the leftover ragu sauce Bob made on Monday with the mash to make a rather colourful variation of Cottage Pie!

I wonder if serving genuine strawberry mousse [another AF bargain] as our dessert was carrying the pink theme a little too far though?

Fanny Cradock was obsessed with technicolor food, wasn’t she? I much prefer Mary Berry and Delia Smith’s more stylish presentation

  1. Reminds me of the pink custard my mum used to make with Bird's custard powder and pink food colouring!

  3. Ew. I can't imagine I'd enjoy pink mash even though it still tasted the same!! Isn't it strange how our eyes can "decieve" our tastebuds!

    1. It actually tasted fine [but I found it bizarre to watch Bob eating his portion]

    1. You think much backcombing and a large pink flower in my hair wouldn't go down to well at church, then? !

  5. Dear me. What ARE those turquoise and pink things?

Just went back to take a second look. I must be imagining it...devilled eggs?!?

I think you'd look lovely with a flower in your backcombed locks. Don't forget the flowing low-cut dress with brooch (shield? badge?), necklace and shiny belt. :)
