My Gorgeous Girl Is Growing Fast!

Three years ago I was eagerly anticipating the birth of my first grandchild. I was keeping myself busy with knitting from this bookI did the fish jumper, the cable jumper, the striped cardi, a hat and bootees [they were in pink and went to a friend's newborn daughter]  The book cost about £7, and I felt at the time it was good value because I would use it again.
The patterns go up to 8 years in size.
Liz mentioned that Rosie could do with a cardigan in a neutral shade.
My friend passed on some Patons washable wool blend aran, in the hopes that I could find a use for it. Thank you Beryl.
So I've cast on and started knitting design K. That's middle row, bottom picture [shown in navy on the cover but cream inside]

It's a straightforward double moss pattern. I thought I'd knit it quite quickly but I seem to be on a Go Slow right now, everything is taking longer. Good thing I'm doing the age 3-4 size. It makes a pleasant change from knitting angels.
Rosie's 3 at the end of the Month. I doubt I'll be done by then. Still in two minds about the contrast blanket stitch edging. Will decide when I've finished it. What do you think? I've got some pretty buttons in my stash I may use instead of plain ones.

  1. I prefer the idea of contrasting buttons rather than blanket stitch edging.
To me it spoils the cardigan and I think it would be a real challenge to keep the stitches uniform everywhere.
Will look forward to seeing the finished result! Sue

    1. Sue, I'm inclined to agree re keeping the Stitches even. It could so easily look a mess. And I have too many buttons in the Great Stash which need to find a purpose.

  2. We were both awaiting first grandchildren back then although Jacob was later - in May, (and I wasn't knitting!)since then I've got 2 more - amazing!
Not sure about the contrast blanket stitch, difficult to see from the photo if it enhances or not, - I'm no help.

  3. Wow! She is growing up fast! I like the idea of pretty buttons. I think the blanket stitch would be a nice accent; maybe in a color that will coordinate with the buttons?

  4. Blanket stitches could easily get caught on things and pull out. Buttons sound nice.

  5. I like the blanket stitch. And you won't need to watch a youtube video, as I would, to remind yourself how to do it! I can't believe it's three years. It's like looking at Pom Pom's grands and remembering how small they were when I first "met" them. My! Enjoy your go-slow though. Follow your seasons x

  6. No blanket stitch for safety reasons, Angela, as it would be so easily caught. I love knitting but mine is all confined to charity makes as there are no little people in our lives.

  7. Aw! She can't be almost 3! Don't they grow up so fast? You're a good knitting nana.

  8. Lovely pattern and I would agree about leaving out the blanket stitch. It looks just as nice without it and less work for you! Just seems like yesterday you were announcing your membership into the world of nanas! They grow far,far too fast!
