We had a workshop at the craft group yesterday. Barb, who is a beading expert, taught us to make angels and snowflakes.
Here are our efforts, hanging on the tree. I managed one snowflake and two angels. I wasn't happy with the nylon line so have replaced that with fine cotton hanging loops. They make attractive little gifts, don't they?
I have a lot of beads in my stash, and hope to make some more little decorations.
They look very pretty as they turn and catch the light. Thank you Barb for a fun, creative morning.

DeleteThese are very pretty. I’ve done a small amount of beading but it is so fiddly trying to hold onto everything. A good idea to use cotton thread and I guess if it was run across beeswax it would be stronger. I got my beading mat out the other day when I wanted beads for embroidery, but the synthetic mat has perished. I shall probably just use a piece of felt in future.

We were each given a square of black felt to work on. It showed up the beads and stopped them rolling around

ReplyDeleteI love a bit of beading and have just bought some of those stars so that my sister and I can make some decorations together when she visits. The black felt is a good tip.

Just a suggestion but I have found that using one of the clear lids off a pringle pack and then counting the beads into that makes it a little easier to thread the needle. I also use Nymo thread (there are several varieties it does come in different colours which is a thread specifically for beading and is a little sturdier. The felt square is a standard. I have a couple of baubles that have beaded over the years and they look lovely on the Christmas tree. I found beadwork extremely addictive but I have to be in the right frame of mind to sit down and concentrate. Well done they look lovely x

DeleteVery pretty. I was sent a photo of the exact same snowflake, made by my friend who was so poorly last year but now lives in a care home and she made them at a crafting morning they had. She has promised to send a couple to Iris who she treats as an honorary granddaughter (she has no grandchildren). Take care. Xx
