Hot And Difficult

What a week this has been. So many people I know have been severely affected by the heat in one way or another.

Someone called on Thursday to deliver something, and I asked if they'd travelled far. "Ashill" she said.
That is one of the Norfolk villages devastated by fires midweek - a dozen homes destroyed. My visitor and her mother were evacuated, and fortunately their house escaped the flames.
I know family members and other friends across the UK who have been unwell because of the heat.
Our climate is changing - and we need to accept that it is the behaviour of the human race which is at fault. Here is a prayer from Compassion [a charity committed to helping children across the world who are living in poverty]

O God, we pray for justice and fairness for those worst hit by our changing climate. We know people living in extreme poverty around the world are worst hit by the climate crisis but have done the least to contribute to it. They also have the fewest resources to implement change.

We ask for your mercy O Lord and repent when our blind consumerism has led to the destruction of our common home.

Heavenly Father, we ask you to stir our hearts into action. As global temperatures increase, inspire us with ways, we can make a difference in our homes, church congregations, communities, and the world around us.

We pray for your prompting where we can do more to love our neighbour. Amen.

  2. My sister lives in Ashill, they did not have to be evacuated as they live at the other end of the village, but it has left them shaken and feeling so distressed for those affected. Such worrying times for us all. Sometimes I feel so helpless because we as a family try our best to be thoughtful and eco-friendly, always mend and repair when we can, have stopped using single plastics, plus many more actions too numerous to mention here, but it does feel an uphill struggle especially when a lot of others do not. I suppose we must just keep on doing what we are doing and try and encourage others to do the same. Thank you for you thoughtful prayer.

    1. I am glad your sister's home escaped the flames- but conscious that there must be real emotional distress for all the community. Yes - every little 'green' action helps, and we must work hard to show that graciously to those who seem to be unaware of the consequence of their actions. I often find that the words of another's prayer sums up exactly what I am trying to say. 👍🙏

    1. Indeed it is. I am grateful that nobody in Ashill was injured or killed. But losing home and all possessions must be a frightening thing. I hang on to the promise that whatever happens, NOTHING can separate us from the love of God

  5. All we can do is hope and pray that someone in our Government and other countries will finally see sense and get things moving to head towards us all being as near to carbon neutral as possible. I don't see that happening in our lifetime though :-(

    1. The older I get, the more I realise I am fighting for the future of my children and my grandchildren. I accept that carbon neutrality is a way off - but we mustn't let that diminish our struggle

  6. Thank you for the prayer. There have been many places affected by extreme heat in recent years but I never thought the UK would one day be one of them.

  7. The world situation now is really frightening in all ways. So much happens that we never thought would happen. Prayers for those who suffer, and prayers that people will wake up and do what they can. We have been lucky in Norway and only got two hot days.

    1. I have been reading about the Sami people in Norway, up by the Arctic circle, who are finding the climate change affecting their traditional lifestyle. We must work and pray
