Kirsten's April stitching was a sampler of the sort of stitch which can be used to embellish the seams of Victorian Crazy Patchwork. Isn't it gorgeous? all done in bright cotton perlรฉ threads. We had agreed at the outset to do cover stitches over our seams when we finished all the twelve patches. These are varied and colourful.
But...neither of us has really taken the seam-coverstitching into account whilst doing our patches. These take up quite a few millimetres and would seriously encroach on the little patches which we have filled so diligently with other stitching. K and I are discussing Collaboration #4 - and wondering if that should be some sort of plainer patches, but with fancier seams...although #4 is quite a few months away yet!
Bizarrely. just before the parcel arrived, I had borrowed this book from the library to get some inspiration. But I think most of these may prove too fancy.
There was a picture of the author inside the back cover, and this quote
Faith, family and friends will get you through anything...but stitching keeps you sane.
I'm clearly not doing enough stitching at the minute!
My favourite lines in Kirsten's stitching are those golden/orange "Easter Eggs" and the blue circles joined by bright pink French knots.
I like the green leafy row a couple above the blue circles and French knots. But they are all so lovely. Each would be pretty but together they are stunning.
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous. I forgot to mention, K used a piece of printed sashiko cloth to keep her stitches even
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stitching. Regards Sue H

DeleteThe photo took me right back to my schooldays this morning when we were taught these kind of stitches on binca fabric. The teacher would usually just give me the book she was using as reference and let me get in with it! I would then help others using what I had learned as I read. I love hand stitching as it’s so mindful and definitely keeps me sane (ish). Catriona
ReplyDeleteI must get out the binca again for Rosie, at half term - thanks for the reminder
DeleteI'm amused you like the Easter eggs! I was rather unhappy with them and nearly snipped them out!

DeleteEaster eggs? They looked like carrots to me. I thought it was a veg bed at first!
ReplyDelete๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ???!!!
DeleteI thought they were pineapples with green tops and the symbol of hospitality!
DeleteAll in the eye of the beholder, right?

DeleteVery pretty when I had to buy a new sewing machine I got one that did embroidery stitches, and its been super to use.
ReplyDeleteMy machine can do all these lovely stitches too , but this is a strictly slow-sew project
DeleteThese are lovely. I remember when I was a child seeing a velvety patchwork throw at my great aunt's but it only had a fairly simple stitching around the patches.
ReplyDeleteA velvet patchwork throw sounds lovely
DeleteLovely stitching with shape shifting Easter eggs/carrots/pineapples! :D When I did my crazy patch cushion cover, I embroidered similar designs to cover the seams.
ReplyDeleteYou have produced some lively patchwork pieces, Bless, I have enjoyed looking at the pictures on your blog (many showing Dancer posing on them!)
DeleteReally lovely stitching. Reminded me of learning some similar stitches at school.
ReplyDeleteWe all did sampler type things back then didn't we?
