It's All White Now!

I have been sharing the Pantone "Color Of The Year" with you since 2014, although the company started the idea at the turn of the Millennium [All colours here] But honestly I think this year they have surpassed themselves. Their chosen colour is white!
This has proved very controversial, as you can imagine. With their usual [ahem] colourful language, they declare it "a whisper of peace in a noisy world""a billowy balanced white imbued with a feeling of tranquility" There has much criticism of this 'non-colour' in the press
Apart from Hello Magazine, who gushingly tell us that Kate Middleton was a "vision in white" and has already nailed it perfectly. Can I just mention here that she should be referred to as Catherine, Princess Of Wales. She hasn't been Miss Middleton since 2011. And she doesnt have to worry about laundry or dry cleaning bills.
I too have nailed this colour - my new kitchen has a white ceiling, white tiles, white paintwork on the door, and a powder coated white range style cooker...
IKEA on the other hand, say their C.O.T.Y. is "Rebel Pink". After decades of green washing up liquid, I went crazy last week and refilled my bottle with cherry pink
White is fine for tiles and paintwork and wipeable, washable surfaces. And for special events [bridal wear and baptismal gowns] But I do not find it practical for everyday clothing, I'm far too messy, and I spend time with sticky fingered children!
Sorry Pantone, I  think this billowy white is not your best choice!

  1. Interesting choice..... Our car is white, but not until we saw it in a car park with many others did we realise that there are so many different colour whites! Cool white, warm white, polar white, the list goes on....

    1. When we had a white car, it always looked in need of a wash!

  2. Do you remember the paint colours 'hint of green' 'hint of pink' 'hint of yellow' 'hint of blue' etc? All the rage after decades of magnolia!

    1. Yes! And B&Q sold pots of white paint, and a little tube of "tint' that you stirred in to it.

  3. I love white...white flowers, white dishes, white bathroom pottery and yes in the summer I have quite a few white tops. I could easily live in Sweden with their love of white. If I cannot decide on a colour I go for white!
Love your crib Ang it is beautiful ...have just seen it on Sue's site. X

White clothing is more of an aspiration for those of us not lucky enough to employ an army of servants. Imagine trying to read a newspaper dressed all in white? Or sorting through the recycling? As a republican ( small 'r' nothing to do with the G.O.P.) the Princess of Wales is only referred to Kate Middleton on a good day

  6. White clothes and I don't get on! I once had a pair of white trousers, never again. I do wear a white shirt occasionally with a jumper over it. I remember the hint of white paints. We had apple white in our dark hall when we lived in London and it really was very pale green. Our car is white and does always need a wash. Regards Sue H

    1. Apple white was very popular, as was Peach white

  7. I love white flowers and have always wanted a white winter coat. However, I know how mucky I am. A white t shirt is the best I can do, but it is helped by a dash of stain remover frequently. I loved seeing the beautiful crib and people set you sent to Sue. It is gorgeous. Carole R.

  8. White is not a good color for me. It doesn't look good on me nor should I be around anything white. I have a habit of spilling almost everything I cook, bake or eat down the front of my clothing! lol

  9. That Ikea pink looks like hospital pink to me. I'm hooting at your 'went crazy with the washing up liquid colour' statement! My eco washing up liquid has finally finished to the last drop! That's been over a year of not buying replacements. I went crazy and bought a big bottle of lemon stuff in the interim til I get round to ordering more!

    1. Definitely hospital pink [or 'corset pink' as my landlady at Uni called it]

  10. I'm a mucky pup so could never wear white unless it was a very special occasion πŸ˜†
The Pantone lot are a little bit full of themselves aren't they? πŸ˜‰

  11. Muddy paw brown would be the ideal colour of the year. We had a cat who could shed black hair on white clothes and white hair on black clothes.

  12. I've always thought white was described as an absence of colour.
And as for wearing white it would just be silly unless you are starring in an ad for washing machine capsules!

    1. Like that Irish woman, Vogue Williams. I get so annoyed that she dresses her young family all in white. Get real!!!

  13. Why is there a “colour of the year” anyway? And why does anyone care? I get so tired of seeing every store having the same few colours for their clothing because someone decided these few colours are fashionable this year. Don’t get me started on car colours. Has anyone noticed that almost every car on the road is black, white, or grey, with the occasional red? Even the ones that aren’t are such a dark shade they look black unless you look very closely.

  14. I do like white bra's and knickers, but couldn't wear all white, makes me look washed out. Even my wedding dress was a creamy gold colour. But I do have a white duvet set on the spare bed and Miss Sheva thought it was the perfect place to leave a pile of black cat hair. Its now covered in a throw. Xx

  15. I cannot for a moment imagine me being able to wear white, especially from head to toe. Round these parts at the moment everyone seems to be dressing in head to toe black, young and old alike.

    1. Sales gimmick. I wear the same coat year in year out till it wears out. Don't need to buy a new one every year...

  17. I'm not sure why we even have to have a "colour of the year". I remember during the pandemic it seemed that almost every vehicle I saw was white, and I wondered if the auto manufacturers had run out of coloured paint. I have seen someone in a pure white parka and since my cream coloured jacket drives me mad when the pockets and cuffs get grimy and are hard to wash, I wonder how she manages to keep her jacket white? Perhaps I will ask her the secret!

  18. I like the color white. It's the color we usually wear to temple. When I was in school, our uniforms were all white. Every car I've ever owned has been white. My house is painted white. I have a white kitchen (floor is not white, though), white bathrooms (with white floors), white/cream drapes and sofas, some white painted furniture. :)
