In the autumn evenings, I am quite happy to curl up with my knitting and watch a thriller or 'police procedural' on TV. My favourites at the moment [apologies to those without these channels]
This is Series 4, and the action takes place mostly in Paris - with great motorbike stunts, and a heart-stopping climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Family relationships and struggles of conscience underlie the action.[subtitled]Also Netflix, political thriller The Diplomat. West Wing stalwarts Alison Janney and Bradley Whitford in the White House [she's POTUS] and Rufus Sewell is VP, married to Keri Russell [US ambassador to UK] Rory Kinnear is an excellent British PM, ably assisted by two of my favourite UK actors, Celie Imrie and Nancy CarrollOn "U", this NZ series [1&2 available now] features a homicide detective who comes home. Her mother is played by Rebecca Gibney, who you may recognise from Halifax f.p., Winter, and other Oz dramas.Anna Pigeon,[also on U] a woman who left City life following a personal tragedy, and became a Park Ranger. The scenery is wonderful, filmed in Alberta, Canada. Based on the novels by Nevada Barr. I'd not heard of NB before, but she, and both her 1st and 2nd husbands qualified as Rangers in the US Parks Service, so I guess she is an expert. Finally, the delightful Adrian Scarborough, pedalling his bicycle furiously round London, in The Chelsea Detective, Season 4 [another on on U]
What are you watching this season?

Ludwig and The Chelsea Detective are firm favourites here. If you can get Talking Pictures there are some fabulous episodes of Maigret either the Rupert Davies or the (I think better) Bruno Cremer ones.

I forgot to mention Ludwig. I have yet to track down Bruno's Maigret, but I thought Rowan Atkinsons performance 10 years ago on ITV was really good.
DeleteI'm watching ICE agents arresting people in my neighborhood on TV (evening news) and pointing a gun in the face of a passerby who was walking his dogs; they pushed him into some bushes because he, apparently, stopped to pick up something he had dropped and pulled a gun on him. Then, they let him go and apparently pepper sprayed him. On Saturday, I opened my living room drapes in the morning and there were two police cars parked in front of my house. No idea why they were there, though, but, there had been another ICE raid and arrest 3 blocks from my house a few weeks ago (in a mini-mall, with a doughnut shop I go to from time to time). One police car left shortly afterwards and drove around the block twice; the other car was still there when my groceries were delivered, but, left a little later. Real life police activity!
ReplyDeleteOh Bless, this sounds horrendous. Please be careful, and your daughter too. The ICE agents seem to pick on any random person they don't like the look of. 🙏❤️
DeleteI can understand how police procedure dramas on TV can pall into insignificance with this sort of "police" activity going on outside your own front door. Wishing you well, Bless.
DeleteWe definitely have the same viewing tastes. I recently watched the latest series of The Chelsea Detective and I really enjoyed Anna Pigeon. I started watching the new series of The Diplomat last night. Bearded Bob DOES look like Bradley Whitford!
ReplyDeleteThere is a 2nd series of AP in the pipeline. I'm not sure about BW's character in The Diplomat. He seems permanently uncomfortable. I suppose anyone married to the POTUS has a difficult life. Especially if the President is not a nice person.
DeleteThe Chelsea Detective, definitely! We have just finished series 2 of "Les Invisibles" on Walter Presents - a French series, investigating the deaths of unidentified people in the north of France. It's good!
ReplyDeleteI shall look out for that one
DeleteI dont ave Netflix, but have enjoyed the Marble Hill murders, all 3 sessions. And dear Sister Boniface is a favourite!
ReplyDeleteMarble Hill had some excellent actors in it, and Sister Boniface is cosy spin off from Father Brown
DeleteThe Diplomat for me, though would an American Ambassador swear so much?!lol x Loved Alison Janney in The Help.
ReplyDeleteSadly I suspect there would be a lot of swearing. AJ was a favourite actor in West Wing. Embarrassed to say I have yet to watch The Help
DeleteI must investigate some of these on Netflix now that the darker nights are here. Catriona
