Wet! Wet! Wet!

Bob and I planned to go into Norwich yesterday. He needed a Post Office, and I needed a new waterproof coat. The parka I rescued from my neighbour's skip three years ago has really got beyond reasonable wear. I checked online and found a few I liked. We began in "Go Outdoors", and the one I had seen online was even cheaper than I'd expected. In grey, navy or sunshine yellow, the hood has detachable fur. I chose yellow!
As we finished the transaction, I asked the guy to clip off the tags so I could wear it straightaway. It was so lovely to feel warm and dry. We continued into Norwich and pootled around a few shops [we parked in John Lewis and had a cuppa, which offsets the cost of using the JL carpark]

Despite all their posters, I did not succumb to anything in the JL sale. Nor did I buy an airfryer in Lakeland. I did treat myself in M&S to a pack of briefs [I nearly titled this post "Fur coat and new knickers" but decided against it]
The rain continued to fall. As we drove out of Norwich on the A47 we encountered a lot of flooding across the road. I was glad we were in the Skoda. I think had I been in my little Toyota, the water would have reached my armpits! Jon sent us a photo of a nearby lane which he was trying to cycle down.
We were following the bus so could see how deep the water was. It is a two lane road, and they are widening it at the moment - those cones mark the edge of the road but the water spread right across the road and the verges.
Jon's lane looks more like a canal
Jess on the other hand has a very different approach to the water - she spent her Christmas money on a new outfit! She says she is a mermaid [I'm not sure why she has wings, and where is her tail?]
Is the rain heavy where you are?
And have you 'succumbed to the sales'?

  1. Thank goodness today is dry - so far.-The amount of rain in the last week is crazy. Flooded roads everywhere here too.
I'm sure mermaids are allowed wings and no tails!

    1. We were lamenting the budget cuts which mean many ditches alongside the roads are no longer kept clear. Short term saving , long term problems ..

  2. It never rains this much in Norfolk! I haven't purchased anything in the sales well, a reduced chocolate bar in Aldi! It was of Christmas Trees, white and dark chocolate. Unfortunately, other half hates white chocolate so I had to eat it all. Such hardship, it was yummy.

  4. I would have used the title fur coat and knickers....LOL Haven't heard that in a while. Happy New Year to you all. I am a fan of Jess's outfit by the way!!

  5. I need to see you in the jacket!!!
    It's such a happy shade!
The road floods are crazy! We have just taken a trip out to take 3 electric guitars for repairs and it tipped it down as we left the car!
I'm depressed about returning to school!

  6. That's a cheerful new coat. We've ordered a new mattress, it had a percentage off but I'm not sure that qualifies as succumbing to the sales.....I'm trying to avoid supermarket shopping until all danger of buying cut price sweet treats is past, I've definitely got some Xmas poundage excess to requirements 😉

  7. I think Jess means that she feels "magical". I have to admit it would be fun ( but crazy) to put on a froufrou skirt and sport wings, I think it would cheer me up ! The neighbors might reach out to SocialServices though.... JanF

    1. She arrived today, and marched into the kitchen demanding to know where the shepherd and baby Jesus had gone [we dismantled the tableau first thing this morning] Dressing up is definitely a thing in this family!

  8. The amount of rain that has chucked itself at us is insane. The River Penk has broken the banks and is threatening the road in some areas. The only things we bought in the Christmas sale at Dobbies were 3 packets of half price seeds and a pack of reduced Christmas cards. Jess's outfit looks very magical. Happy New Year. Hugs Gill Xx

  9. That jacket is a glorious colour and that's exactly what we all need on these gloomy wet days. The rain has been a bit lighter here today and the wind has all but gone, but it's cold and damp.

I think mermaids must lose their tail and gain wings when they are on dry land ... so Jess has it just right, AND she looks adorable!

  10. Yellow is certainly the best choice for a dismal rainy day! I have a bright pink umbrella to cheer up the landscape.
We don't have floods, just a lack of snow and I'm torn between being happy at the mild temperatures, and feeling sorry for all the skiers and skaters who missed out over Christmas when they love to come home from the city for the great outdoors.

  11. Cute rain slicker! Mine is red, simlar to yours and without the fur.
We ended December with a rainfall total of 9" and our forecast for Daturday and Tuesday is for rain all day. Glub, glub.
    Jess looks too cute!

    Hugs!

  13. Nice jacket. In Scotland we say 'fur coat and nae knickers'! I'm waiting on my Liberty candle arriving any day now. My only concession to any sale!ps the Co-op had Easter eggs in yesterday!

  14. I love the yellow jacket but would be frightened of it showing the dirt too quickly. Well done for sacrificing practicality to cheerfulness. Nicky K
