An Ancient Prayer Of Grace And Joy

On Friday we watched a fascinating programme about Bamburgh. Much of the early history of this ancient village on the Northumbrian coast comes from the writings of Bede, an ancient, well respected abbot. Known as The Venerable one.
After that we watch a fabulous Prom Concert - Beethoven's 9th, including the wonderful "Ode to Joy"
On Saturday I was doing more book sorting and a little card fell on the floor. It was Bede's Prayer. More Grace and Joy...

  1. There is a Bede museum in Jarrow. I used to work with the person who was the first curator there. I have been to Bamburgh, but have never made it to Jarrow.

  3. That was appropriate after watching a programme about Bamburgh. One year we holidayed in Northumbria it was wonderful. Bamburgh Castle is quite something and the village is pretty too. The proms with Beethoven 's 9th was wonderful. I hope you enjoy the bank holiday. Regards Sue H

  5. As a born and bred northeast person -- North Yorkshire -- I love it when attention is paid to that beautiful part of the world and its holy people, like Bede and Hilda. Thank you.

  7. Love that programme. He's been to some interesting places by the sea. I've never been to Bamburgh. It's on the ever-growing list of possibilities should my family decide they no longer need my time!

  9. I'm heading that way tomorrow...
I learnt about Bede for my A level Historiography unit he is one of the great historians!
I haven't made it to any live proms this year which I'm sad about. Somehow he didn't manage it! I must let you know the date if our kids concert in Islington in December would be lovely if Rosie and Jess could come along!
    That prayer is beautiful!

  10. A lovely prayer, thank you. We don't seem to come across many people described as "venerable" these days!
