In Everything Give Thanks

These are the words of Paul in his letter to the Christians at Thessalonica. I was completely exhausted when we got back from Manchester on Friday night, and have developed a nasty cold. But I was thankful
  • For a safe journey
  • For 5 superb days with the family
  • For a lovely home to come back to
  • For the neighbour who had put my wheelie bin back
  • For good food to eat
  • .... For so much more.
But I was feeling a bit flat - missing my two cheerful little boys, and sneezing a lot. "We may have post waiting for us" said Bob, hopefully. There was indeed a stack of flyers on the mat [no, I don't need new furniture, replacement windows,  a will or a funeral plan - and I am certainly not planning on moving house!] But at the bottom of the heap, a proper envelope, with a handwritten address. And inside, the most gorgeous card
My wonky photo doesn't do it justice. My friend had already emailed a thank you for the small package I'd sent her. This handmade thank you card really lifted my spirits - as did the message inside.
In this busy world of texts and emails and WhatsApps, it really means a lot when somebody makes an extra effort to show their gratitude.
"Writing thank you letters " after Christmas or birthdays often felt like a chore when I was a child, but I am glad Mum drilled the habit into me, and grateful to others who say thank you sincerely.
Let us not take each other for granted. Every day, find somebody to say thank you too. And make it genuine, not just a perfunctory phrase mumbled in passing.  ❤️๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก๐Ÿฉท

  1. I agree. No matter how much I give, I always receive even more. And I am thankful.

  2. That is so right. Yesterday my husband tripped over a paving slab in our main shopping street, no damage just to his self esteem and he got up pretty quickly, there was a small queue outside a popular bakers and everybody acted as one and rushed to help. First in the queue was a young man covered with tattoos and who looked quite fierce. He could not have been more kind and considerate. Once we were all dusted and ready to go I thanked everyone but a special thank you to the young man who offered my husband a strong arm to help him up. We were so grateful. I hope your cold improves. 4. It's a challenge some days to find something to be thankful for, but there's always something if you look. And once you find the first thing, the rest are just underneath... a huge hoard of grace and beauty in front of your nose!

  5. I made a simple card for someone’s retirement last week and he was so pleased. There had been an electronic version circulated for everyone at the lunch to sign but I decided to go for the personal touch. Little people are good at giving one their germs so rest up and enjoy being looked after for a few days. Catriona

  10. I was thrilled this year to get a Thank You card from my grandson, I really did not expect to get one from a 16yr old boy. A wonderful surprise.

I have just thanked Alan for giving a me a kettle de-scaling sachet ... and now would like to thank you for your lovely blog posts of the last few years, and also for your clever word-play which always brings a smile to my face, or an occasional groan to my lips. ;-)

  11. I'm always thankful for everything I receive and I love getting handwritten letters (few and far between these days). Have you tried taking Echinchea for your cold, it often helps shorten the symptoms. Hope you feel better soon. Xx

  12. I'm so thankful for so many things. I think my hormones are a mess as I'm getting stupidly anxious and upset over things and my thoughts were spiralling and a short period of thanksgiving helped to take my mind back for a while. A lovely gesture like that means a lot. It's a gorgeous card too!

    1. The start of term is always a time of turmoil. Make space for reflection. Cards are a tangible reminder that we are loved ❤️
