I try to avoid getting political on my blog. But the words of the prophet Micah are good advice in these days - especially to the leaders of the nations.
In 2018 I went up to London to meet Liz and join those who were marching in protest of the arrival of a certain person. A number of people told me I was wrong to do this. That the President of another nation deserved respect. That as a Christian I should be loving and accepting, even if I disagreed with someone.
My answer then was that I believed that my responsibility was to speak for the poor and the marginalised, to speak in defence of those who could not speak for themselves. To uphold people's right to life and liberty. I have not changed my position on this issue.

Hear hear. I never thought we would ever see such a "man" as leader of one the greatest nations on earth.
ReplyDeleteSo sad
DeleteI'm British American and find him pathetic. JanF
DeleteWell said as ever Angela. It’s so awful to see so much brutality and injustice and feel so helpless. It’s hard to stay hopeful.

Keep praying. π
DeleteIn the past there was always the notion that might was right, and finders were keepers, which is how colonialism works, from Biblical times until living memory. However this attitude is no longer acceptable. Riding roughshod over nations cannot be tolerated, and like you, I stand with Greenland. And Ukraine.

DeleteWholeheartedly concur!

DeleteYou can love and respect a person as a fellow human being, but you don't have to love and respect their actions especially if they are damaging to someone else.
ReplyDeleteThis is true and well put.
DeleteI agree with you totally. I pray for Greenland, Ukraine, the Middle East, anywhere there is strife and also for the USA with such a leader. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteAmen to those prayers
DeleteThank you for this post. I can't quite find the words without spiralling into anger, so please know how grateful I am to you and how ashamed I feel to be where I am right now. Friday a large protest in Minneapolis is planned, and since I live nearby I want to go. But the high temperature is forecast for very cold (-22*C), so I'm not sure if it will happen. I will print off the "I stand with Greenland" sign and post it in my car.
ReplyDeleteCelie, you are inspired my prayers. Keep safe if you do join the protest, and find someone to walk with you so you are not alone.
DeleteThere's never a dull moment, is there? The evening news is better than any reality show! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't enjoy "reality shows " and long for peace and calm.in our world
DeleteWell said Angela. I feel exactly the same. How one man thinks he can treat, and try to change the rest of the world the way he is doing is diabolical, that no one is brave enough to have a serious word with him is even worse.

DeleteWell thought and written, Ang. I stand with you all the way. Catriona

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. I stand with Greenland also. I am continually dismayed by the events in the USA because of this man and his administration. I can't imagine Jesus for a second standing by and not opposing this cruel, bigoted regime. Carole R you

DeleteI agree. It’s hard to respect someone whose behaviour is like a schoolyard bully. He doesn’t deserve respect or acceptance. There is too much pussyfooting around him going on. It’s time he was gone.

DeleteGood for you! I'm sickened by what is happening in our country. Reminded of this quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. ""History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people."
ReplyDeleteThat is a superb quote. Thank you
DeleteWell said Angela. Worrying times for us all but especially so for Greenland and Ukraine.

DeleteAs U.S. citizens we are appalled at the way this administration is running roughshod over so much of our country’s citizens and the rest of the people in the world. What astounds us is the lack of push back by his own party, the Congress or the Supreme Court. Grass roots seem to be the only way to make our voices heard. Micah & the other prophets need to be read more often.
ReplyDeletePraying for you π
DeleteI have never commented on your blog, although I've read it for years. Today is different. I have people ask why I protest here in the USA and you have given me the words which I can use to answer. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteπ❤️
DeleteAmen.
ReplyDeleteI stand with you on this Angela, one country should not be allowed to impose their rules on another. Xx
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree!

DeleteHard agree. Excellent speech by Mark Carney, the Canadian President. I would like our leaders to do the same. (Although, well done Ed Davey)
ReplyDeleteMC was brilliant i thought
DeleteThanks Carney is our Prime Minister. Canada has a similar parliamentary system to the UK

DeleteI also stand with Greenland.I pray for their peace and for their protection. May God Bless Greenland and its people
ReplyDeleteAmen
DeleteIt's hard to respect the office, if the holder of the office doesn't respect it himself! I haven't seen a hint of statesman about the person in question, and I wouldn't trust him one iota because he doesn't behave rationally. It's a sad situation where so many innocent people's lives are being ruined by his whims.
ReplyDeleteVery sad indeed
DeleteThank you, Angela. My dear cousin, Jan, referred me here because she knows I am worried about our allies in Canada and Britain thinking we support this cruel bullying. Thank you for your words. I feel at home here! US citizens love, respect, and are grateful for the alliances we’ve maintained for so many years with every European country.
ReplyDeleteWe recognise that not everyone living in the US thinks the same way. God give you the grace to continue showing love and respect. I hope there is a change at the ballot box...
DeleteI also stand with you and everybody else here on these issues.
