During those cold days when I could not find my better, black gloves, I wore my old blue ones. They are cheap Poundshop 'Magic' gloves. I think I bought them one day when a visiting grandchild had cold hands. They fit either hand - but unfortunately the tips of the index fingers have worn through, and the thumbs are wearing thin.
At first I thought I would just darn the fingertips, then it occurred to me - if I left them 'open' I would be able to unlock my phone and use it without removing my gloves. So I strengthened the thumbs, but stitched round the edge of the top of the fingers. Success!Unlike the youngsters I know who type phone messages with their thumbs, I am very old fashioned and use my right index finger, for typing and biometric access. As both gloves have holey fingers, I don't need to worry when I put them on. You can probably buy access gloves like this premade on the internet somewhere.
Neat idea! You can buy gloves that have pads on the ends for typing on a phone, not much use though if you need to unlock your phone with a fingerprint !

DeleteI was given some that had some sort of special Index finger material which meant you could text with the gloves on. Don't think I ever used them as I had so many other gloves but gave them away. I like your solution!

DeleteI used to own a very small Samsung phone where even an index finger was too fat for texting so I had to - and now continue -to use my pinkie . Never got the hang of thumbs.
ReplyDeleteSome of these phones are tiny!
DeleteI have never mastered the thumbs thing that youngsters use. I use my index finger. Great idea, waste both went not. Another renovation. Regards Sue H

DeleteExcellent idea to turn the hole into a more intentional opening for phone texting. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the word "intentional" , much better than an "accidental" hole!
DeleteGenious!

DeleteGreat idea for saving the gloves’ and making them useful. I have gloves with the special pad on the forefinger but always end up taking my gloves off to use my phone. I knitted some sets of fingerless mitts for friends’ grandchildren and they seem to be popular for phone use. Very wet day and I have to stay in for the burglar alarm engineer to visit as the alarm has a fault. Catriona
