Julian gave me some little resin models of Sir David A to guard my orchids in the bathroom. On his birthday, [David, not Julian] I decided to move them all to the top of their sticks in celebration.
But disaster struck. I caught my sleeve, on my favourite one [seated with the butterfly]Is decapitating a centenarian National Treasure a capital offence? Fortunately Bob came to the rescue. DA is restored.
These look good photographed against the white tiles - but they cannot stay there, on my glass hob. I have carefully replaced them in the bathroom.
Orchids have become my favourite houseplants I think.

My favourite houseplant is anything which can survive my ministrations! Orchids (so far) can.
ReplyDeleteThey seem very resilient plants
DeleteI gave my orchids away... it seemed kinder to them. I have a Christmas/Easter/Thanksgiving cactus, and of course I like my amaryllis flowers!
ReplyDeleteNever really had success with amaryllis
DeleteI like my Jade plant and also the Trandescantia is very pretty. But the purple trailing one in the bathroom which I grew from a cutting is really tenacious despite my neglect so I can really choose!
ReplyDeleteMy jade plant is not well at all. I hope it revives soon and stops shedding leaves
DeleteI too like orchids and currently have three all in flower. Two are the same sort as yours but the other one is a very different type with large sprays of little dark red flowers. I have long lost the label and don't know what variety it is. I treat it the same as the other two and it seems to thrive. I like them all. I do have one or two other house plants, all just green leaves mostly but the orchids are the prettiest. I am glad Sir David has been repaired. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteI too think orchids are prettiest
DeleteI have a maroon orchid just starting to bloom again. I like African violets which flower over a long period and bloom again from time to time.
ReplyDeleteHaven't had an A V for years. They are so pretty
DeleteI currently have no houseplants but I like orchids and other plants that flower. Catriona
ReplyDeleteCornerstones is rather short of places to put houseplants
DeleteI rather like orchids too but have never managed to keep one alive for long so have given up. It seems cruel to keep killing such beautiful plants.
ReplyDeleteNow that we are in the bungalow we have few windowsills (and other surfaces) to put plants on so we don't currently have any. I get my flower fix from the garden now.

I killed a few orchids then moved to Dorset and my friend Jenny coached me! Mine get a weekly watering with a drop of feed the flowering season. Every fortnight out of season
DeleteMy house is also short on places to put plants. My favourites of all though are geraniums. Easily propagated from cuttings and love sunny windowsills. Orchids love a warm bath once a week in growing season (stand them in the sink and splosh warm water over the aerated roots). They hate standing in water. A good orchid feed helps too.
ReplyDeleteI am building a collection of scarlet geraniums in pots at the front. Very cheery, remind me of continental cities where they have them in pits by the door
DeleteMy favourite houseplants used to be 'spider plants' but now it seems to be 'Mother in Laws Tongue'. I never used to like orchids at all but over the last year my sister in law has bought me two. I thought that once the flowers dropped off that was it for them, but when my little one lost all it's flowers I Googled what to do and followed a YouTube tutorial for pruning it. Now it has the most glorious flowers once again ... thank goodness I didn't just put it into the compost bin!!
ReplyDeleteYouTube is so useful sometimes.
DeleteI fuss too much over house plants and often kill them with kindness. We have a trailing plant thats doing well but husband is in charge of watering it 😀
ReplyDeleteI do love the look of orchids.

I have to be disciplined about watering. I used to have a very Baptist approach , give them a total immersion once and then forget them. Now I'm more likely to do an Anglican sprinkling, but on a regular basis
