Hope

 "Hope" was my #word365 for 2017 -

On October 25th - we were in Norwich and I bought a Christmas decoration in a charity shop - it was a few days after Bob was declared free of coronary heart disease, and life seemed bright, full of hope. I normally buy [or make] one new decoration this year - and this cutout wooden shape [only 50p!] appealed to me.

The following morning, we had the phonecall from Julian about Gill's awful diagnosis.

I was talking to someone this past week who is also recently bereaved. We talked of our hope of heaven. That hope was Gill's anchor- her faith kept her firm and secure, as she faced death.

Ps 42 says "Why are you cast down my soul? hope in God for I shall praise Him again" I know that the roller coaster of bereavement brings a load of mixed emotions-  the memories bring laughter and tears, gratitude for what we shared, and grief for what we've lost.

Advent begins soon. This year I am taking a break from organising the Pause in Advent blogfest. I know you will understand. If anyone else wants to take it on, and compile a list of participants, that would be wonderful.

At the moment, I am finding myself often singing that old hymn, which talks about the great faithfulness of God - and his promise of "Strength for today, and bright hope for tomorrow" - and that is keeping me going right now.

  1. It is good you find comfort in scripture and God. As I wait by my beloved sister's bedside, I only feel grief. May hope carry you forward and give you solace. My best to you as you go through this difficult time of grief. Celie

  4. Great is His faithfulness indeed, the hymn is a comfort. Life doesn't end here, there is more and “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2 v 9).

  5. I like those hymn lyrics! "Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow" Yes, please! I think that is what we all need, especially right now! Strength for today and hope for tomorrow.

    1. An old hymn, but as you say, a contemporary relevance

  6. Sending you and Celie love. It's hard but hoping and trusting in Jesus is the only thing that can keep us going sometimes when things seem difficult. If I wasn't finding things so busy, I'd offer to take on a Pause for Advent, but I don't want to let anyone down or not be able to post in time...also not very good at the technical side bar stuff either.xx

    1. Kezzie, you're far too busy! It's quite OK if it doesn't happen this year... It's a strange year anyway

  7. I can understand that this year has brought you to a point of needing to pause and take stock. Funnily enough I had been thinking about 'pause for Advent' - if you can explain the sidebar stuff to me then I'll host it on my blog www.a-letter-from-home.blogspot.com
For some reason this year I am ridiculously excited about Advent, almost more so than Christmas. I think it is because I am part of a group reflecting on each of the great 'O' Antiphons each week - I'll blog this as it is a big topic. Sorry, that sounds like an advertising push; I don't mean it that way. But it is what has filled me with Hope. Take care.
