Blooming Marvellous!
My Christmas cactus is clearly responding well to the dark/light treatment. I moved it on to the dining table to take a photograph [yes, Barbara, I've been gently dusting the leaves!]
Do you like the crochet tablecloth? It was parting gift from my neighbour Alwyn as she emptied her bungalow before going up to Scotland. It fits the dining table beautifully. 
Alwyn also passed on some things to Bob for the Men's Shed Project. They hope to get insurance soon, and start regular meetings after Christmas. 
Speaking of Christmas, I dug out my favourite apron and made my Christmas Cake this week. My usual GH recipe, but only half the size as I made in the past.

What lovely keepsakes. Our Christmas cactus has responded in the same way, and its beautiful. Good to hear that the Men's Shed will soon be happening, its proved to be a great idea. Love Isabel

DeleteWhat a beautiful gift-I cannot master crochet and many people have tried to teach me. Norrie is a founder member of our local Men’s Shed and it has been going for nine years now. The constant pressure is trying to seek funding as they don’t want to become a Social Enterprise. We successfully received money yesterday of about a third of what we asked for-I say we because I help him to do the funding bids! Catriona

DeleteMy Christmas Cactus sits on the kitchen window, it is a few years old and looks very sad and tired. However, after reading your recent blog re your cactus I looked closely at it and it has tiny flower buds on many of the leaves. Such a surprise, they are still tiny but I am hopeful that we may see flowers.

I saw on BBC news that Kate, Princess of Wales has been to Swanton Morley, driving an armoured vehicle, flying a drone etc.
She should have dropped in on you for a coffee!
Yes she was here, just up the road. She was served coffee in the officers' mess (much tidier than Angela's mess)

DeleteYour plant looks lovely! I was recently given a cutting of one, but, I've identified it as a Thanksgiving cactus (Schlumbergera truncata) going by the leaf shape (serrated edges with pointy bits at the ends).

DeleteYes, I've made our Christmas cake but it keeps calling me from the tin - pretty sure I will be cutting into it by December the 1st if not before!

My recipe was for an 8" tin, I halved the recipe quantities and cooked it in a 6" tin, for slightly less time. That works fine
DeleteLove that table cloth — I have one my grandmother started and sadly never finished. I really like your Christmas cactus as well — I might have to pick one up and try again……
ReplyDeleteIt fits the table beautifully (with extension flaps down) The three line panels along the middle mean it's not all Crochet work. Maybe you could separate Grans crocheted pieces ans do some sort of inserted panel(s) down the centre. Use vintage table napkins?

ReplyDeleteThe apron is wonderful, I have a similar one from my mom.
And I sewed two aprons for myself... maybe I'll put them in the blog :-))) It was a nice sewing job. And the patchwork blanket is great. Have you ever quilted... I have something in the works right now. It's fun to learn new things.
I'm looking forward to your hats and caps for your grandchild. I hope you enjoy designing and sewing... it's really a lot of fun.
