Well that wasn't the Tuesday I expected! We were taking Ruth out for a Pre-Christmas lunch. So we decided on a light breakfast - I started making toast, whilst Bob rinsed the cafetiere. And then we saw a stream of dirty brown water running out from under the fridge across the floor.
Bob pulled out the fridge, I mopped up the water. It was coming from that pipe on the left. That is a capped off outlet from the previous owner's dishwasher [our DW is in the Futility Room] But why is it leaking now, nearly fifteen years after we bought the place? We mopped up the floor, and had breakfast.
Bob - who loathes plumbing - checked what supplies he had in the workshop.
We went off to Downham Market and had a lovely day with Ruth. We met her over 40 years ago, when her son married Bob's sister. Technically, a "relative-by-marriage", but very much part of the family, and we are so fond of her. We came home at 3 and returned to the Plumbing Problem. We ascertained that the pipework was a load of bodged, mismatched pieces. [much like the electrics]
As is to be expected, none of Bob's spare pipes - shown standing on the fridge - is the right size for replacing anything. Bob concluded that it would be better to tackle it all in daylight. Knowing that I might easily forget and empty the teapot down the sink, I've temporarily tied festive red warning ribbons in place!
I am so grateful for a sink in the Futility Room. This Grandma runs on tea!
Plumbing leaks always appear af the worst moments. Glad it is just a repair, and not a new fridge that's needed! Hope Bob manages to fix it easily.
ReplyDeleteAt least it didn't appear on Christmas day! And it is not the only sink & tap in the house. Thousands of women today will walk miles to get a bucket of water for their families. I mustn't complain

DeleteI'm sorry to hear you had a leak! Hope it gets solved. You're right about women walking hundreds of miles for water but it is still always a bit of a worry when there is a leak- what other, hidden damage it can cause.

DeleteI feel for you, we had a similar problem but my OH is useless at DIY, though he did know where to switch the water off. Fortunately Darren our lovely local plumber came and fixed it and on a Sunday too. Hope Bob gets the repair done quickly and as you say we don't have to walk miles for water. Hugs Gill Xx

DeleteOh no. Plumbing issues can be a nightmare. Luckily you have Bob on the case. We, too, have supplies for repairs and find they are not the right size.

DeleteWhat a bother! When we first were in this house, and had been here less than 6 months, we had such a kitchen plumbing leak, that the entire kitchen floor had to be replaced two weeks befor Christmas! That was a bother of a whole differnt kkind!
