Bob got to church early and set up for the Pancake Party. He had a stool in the kitchen so he could sit down
when he needed to. Dan brought along two more gas rings, the pancakes were being fried and flipped with great speed
We had a variety of toppings, fruit sauces, nutella, lemon and sugar - also tea, coffee, squash and biscuits.
There were activity sheets on the tables, and the families got involved in word searches and pancake puzzles.
After an hour, Bob announced he was running out of batter, so Jacob dashed up to the shop and got more ingredients. Over the 2½ hours, the two

cooks reckoned they produced well in excess of 100 pancakes - last year it was around 70
Richard, the new vicar at the local Parish Church dropped in too with his children [which was lovely because his vicarage is in another village]
All in all a lovely community event, with more than £50 raised for Hope Now, a charity helping people in Ukraine for over 30 years.
Did you have pancakes on Tuesday?
What's your favourite topping?
[I am aware that today is World Book Day - that will get mentioned later!]
Well done, the pancake team. As well as all the toppings you listed, we like maple syrup, golden syrup and blueberries. Nicky K
ReplyDeleteThank you for your earlier concern about Bob's backpain, with so much standing. That prompted us to take the bar stool with us, and it proved very helpful
DeleteWhat a good idea to have the stool. Back pain is very hard. Super pancakes, our house group had a mixture of syrups, jam, cream...... My favourite is always Maple syrup!
ReplyDeleteCream? Proper Rodda's clotted, as you're Iin Cornwall
DeleteWell done to Bob! Very glad to hear the stool helped! I didn't have pancakes as I was at a rehearsal. May have them at the weekend instead. X
ReplyDeleteAny excuse is good for pancakes
DeleteOh my gosh over a 100 made??and £50 raised, Well done your Bob and Dan, my lovely husband made ours, diet out the window, I love mine with lemon and sugar, lush!
ReplyDeleteThe day before Lent should be diet free imho
DeleteWell done to the pancake champion again this year. It’s great that your church provides this service and all are welcome. Hope you and Bob managed to have a pancake. My favourite topping is lemon juice and a very little amount of sugar. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI think lemon&sugar is my favourite on crepes. Thick American style pancakes need maple syrup.
DeleteWhat a great community event. Yes we had pancakes. My husband had 4! I had one small one and as I am now Type 2 no sugar, but some blueberries on top with a small squeeze of lemon, delicious and I didn't miss the sugar. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteBlueberries 🫐 are good with pancakes (as every Gruffalo knows 🫐
DeleteThat is a lot of pancakes! It sounds like a really fun day and really well thought out.
ReplyDeleteWe've been doing them together since 1979, so we have a good system in place!
DeleteThat's a lot of pancakes! I made some thin pancakes/crepes for our brunch, on Tuesday, and we had them with sugar and lemon juice. Fluffy, American style pancakes are best with maple syrup and/or fruit compote (although, I've been known to eat them with curry!)
ReplyDeleteYes I agree about toppings. Not tried them with curry (yet)
DeleteThat's brilliant, £50 raised and many happy memories made for people. I have to admit that I forgot all about Pancake Day, so no I haven't had any pancakes ... yet!! If I do my topping will be the traditional lemon and sugar. :-)
ReplyDelete👍our Church Treasurer thinks there may be late donations. All good. And such generous people
DeleteGreat work! Orange juice and sugar for me.
ReplyDeleteIf you are wondering why I am commenting when I said I was giving up blogs for Lent, as usual, it is because I realised that I really need to read about nice, kind people doing good things at the moment. I blocked my news feed instead.
Wise move Tracy. Too much unpleasantness out there right now.The late Prince Philip once said that this favourite bible verse was "whatsoever things are true, noble etc etc ..think about these things"(Philippians 4:8) A good reminder when the newsfeed is full of hate.
DeleteI couldn't give up blogs, (or chocolate ) for Lent! (previous comment). They are both part of my self survival and sanity system! I'm with Prince Philip in bible verse choice
ReplyDeleteWe shall have pancakes and maple syrup at the weekend when our children come to visit. Shrove Tuesday deferred...
Enjoy!
DeleteWhat a lot of pancakes, bet Bob was glad of the stool. Iris has gone as Lottie Brookes for World Book Day. Her school are also doing a readathon, a child being sponsored for how many books they read within a certain time. Granny has paid up £10. Xx
ReplyDeleteWell done Granny!
DeleteHow wonderful that there was even a rush for more ingredients for even more batter! Apart from the funds raised, it was lovely for so many people to get together and enjoy pancakes.
ReplyDeleteWe had the traditional English type with sugar and lemon. I couldn't imagine having our North American pancakes on Shrove Tuesday!
It was a lovely evening
DeleteGlad it all went so well. I'm not that keen on pancakes. I usually feel a bit left out at this time of year
ReplyDeleteOh I'm sorry. We had nice biscuits for the non pancake eaters!!
DeleteWell done Bob and Dan for flipping all those pancakes and helping to raise money and awareness for Hope Now. My birthday was on Tuesday so we had pancakes and cake! I prefer my pancakes with lemon and sugar.
ReplyDeleteHappy (belated) birthday
