I like the Queen. I believe she is a woman of faith and integrity, who puts duty and service high upon her to-do list, and acknowledges that she herself is a servant of the King of Kings. And at an age when many women sit around with their feet up, knitting, watching EastEnders and reading the People’s Friend, Her Maj is still working her socks off. In July, she had around 20 official engagements. Yes, I know Queen Victoria went on for years – but much of that time she was shut away mourning for Albert. Not sure if the British Public would put up with that now. Look at the fuss when our Queen stayed at Balmoral for a few days after the death of Diana, to comfort her young grandsons [“Where is our Queen?” screamed the Sun’s headline] I have many good friends who are Republicans, who cannot understand why I am a Royalist – but we agree to differ and remain friends. But when you compare this gracious lady with some of the Presidents and Prime Ministers round the world, I know which I prefer [look at Putin, Berlusconi, Castro…and don’t get me started on the potential nightmare that is Donald Trump]
Congratulations on such a long and [mostly] happy reign, Ma’am. My ancient, chipped “one penny” china money box sits on the shelf in front of me, and reminds me that Scripture calls us to pray for those in authority. God give you strength each day, to continue to fulfil your calling.
God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen:
Send her victorious,Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us: God save the Queen.
Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign:
May she defend our laws, and ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice: God save the Queen
