Are They Pulling The Wool Over Our Eyes?

Am I being dense here? I do not understand why it is that Anthropologie are selling “Felted gift ribbon” at the amazing price of £8 for 205cm [that’s £4 a metre] and say that it will ‘lend a uniquely rustic touch to your gifts’ It is just wool.

Meanwhile John Lewis are selling Sirdar Big Softee Yarn for £3.50 for 45 metres [that’s less than 8p a metre] It is also wool.If you want to tie up your Christmas gifts with wool, why on earth would you buy the one that costs fifty times as much? Do they think we are stupid?

  1. Yes, is the answer to that. They do. They should have called it 'Snow cord' to up the Christmas swindle a notch further! X

  2. Sadly, they do. And even more sadly there will be those who prove them right!

  3. I can only think that some people must buy it! Can't think why anyone would at that price! Vee x

  4. Unbelievable! You'd probably find much the same in a charity shop for 50p, to give a uniquely rustic touch etc....or maybe just use string?

  5. I think they do think we're that stupid! Maybe some folk think if something is from a certain shop then it must be good and the price tag goes along with that.

  6. Some folk will buy it purely because of the shop it comes from. I've read numerous times how much people ' love Anthropologie'!

  7. God of them to inspire us ordinary folk to 'get the look' for less than 8p a metre lol! Their customers obviously have more money than sense!

  8. It's the power of marketing, selling stuff to people with more money than sense....or who are too busy making money to use their imagination.
The only good thing is that by robbing gullible people who have plenty of dosh to spare, it puts more into circulation which benefits the rest of us. Hopefully.
I shall however be wrapping my gifts in brown paper tied up with wool this year, in order to make them look like they're not the usual rubbish but something rather special.....!
