I have just darned the hole in my glove. and also finished another Memory Bear, this time for a newly widowed neighbour, using four of her husband's shirts.
And I spent an evening with my overlocker. |I am so grateful for everybody's hints and tips - thank you all. I went right back to basics. I took off all the threads, cleared out oodles of fluff, replaced both needles, and rethreaded using four different colours. That enabled me to see which tension wheels needed adjusting, and within 45 minutes everything was running very smoothly.
I made some more voile bags and a bolster case, and then relaxed with TV for the rest of the evening. We have been watching Around The World In Eighty Days. Not sure that Jules Verne would recognise it - but it is beautifully filmed and has some good actors in it.
Anybody else watching ATWI80D ? What do you think?
I quite fancy watching the Around the World in Eighty Days. David Tennant is usually good. The memory bear looks so cute. And so glad that you worked out the overlocker. It sounds desperately complicated, so utter respect
ReplyDeleteThank you Lyssa. Yes, DT is an extremely good actor- lots of other people with cameos too [John Light, who plays Flambeau in 'Father Brown' pops up at one point]
DeleteWell done on sorting out the overlocker.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been watching ATWI80D yet, assuming you're taking about the David Tennant version. I'm waiting to binge watch them all later in the year.
Oh I do hope you enjoy it as much as we did
ReplyDeleteYou did a marvelous job on that bear and I think the whole idea of using clothing as a memory that way is quite lovely!
ReplyDeleteWe have started to watch Around the World in 80 days too!
For a family like yours that is used to planes, 80 days must feel like a very long time to go round the world - yet 150 years ago it seemed impossible that anyone should do it that quickly!
DeleteWe binge watched ATWI80D on BBC I player and really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI liked DT's portrayal of Fogg, a very different type of man, flawed and a bit, dare I say, 'wimpy'!
And.......I fell absolutely in love with Passepartout!!!
Ibrahim Koma who plays Passepartout is younger than my son, so maybe I'm a bit of a cougar! X
Yes, I thought DT's Fogg was excellent. I make no comments on your feelings for PP!But I loved all the costumes, especially the millinery
DeleteI remember seeing a film version of Around the World in 80 Days, as a child, but I don't think that's what you are writing about here!
ReplyDeleteYou did well to get your serger working again and that memory bear is lovely.
This is a new version, shown on the BBC, starring popular Scottish actor David Tennant (he previously played Dr Who in the scifi series) This version is very "woke" addressing issues like racism & feminism.
DeleteAnother sweet memory bear! It is a lovely idea to use personal fabric in this way.
ReplyDeleteThe bears bring so much comfort
