I bought my IKEA 'Gospel' light in a sale more than thirty years ago. For 20 years it languished in the garage - then finally, after modification, was hung over the dining table in Kirby. It shone in Ferndown for 6 years...and now it hangs over our dining table here. I am very pleased, it's so much bright than the previous light fitting.
Meanwhile in the refurbed kitchen, Bob fixed a strip of LED lights under the cupboards. I can now see properly when I am busy at the worktop.[thank you Bob]
We now have "smart" lamps in the bedroom and lounge too [thank you L&J for your Christmas gift] I am not so sure about these - but I can say "Alexa, bedroom lights ON" and the room lights up - or I can say "Alexa, lounge lights on 2%", and we get subdued 'mood' lighting. [I have had to tape the switch into the 'on' position, otherwise I forget, do it manually, and Alexa gets confused and grumpy]
I am generally in favour of good lighting- especially when I am reading, sewing or doing craftwork. Now we have the Gospel light up it has caused me to look again at what were previously dark corners of the dining area, and consider whether we ought to move "repainting the Atrium" up the home maintenance to-do list.
The outdoor solar powered security lights are working well -useful when I need to pop out to the freezer in the dark to fetch something! And the lights over the front and side doors come on promptly if we have visitors in the evenings. In these dark winter months, we all need light, both physical and spiritual, to brighten our path. And sometimes we are the ones called to provide light for others. Philippians ch 2 says
Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.
Enjoy this joyful uplifting music, and have a happy Sunday, wherever you are! This morning I shall be out lay-preaching, shedding the Gospel light myself.
It's brilliant having Alexa turn on the lights before you go into the room isn't it. I have only one smart plug at the moment so over Christmas she was in charge of the fairy lights, now she's back on lamp duty in the living room. I can just quietly tell her to turn them on from the bedroom and hey presto I can see my way.
ReplyDeleteLight in it's many forms is a gift to really appreciate.
We should not take the availability of good light for granted
DeleteI agree - good lighting is a must. I'm always switching on lights here. That Gospel like looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love it!
DeleteThis world definitely needs as much Gospel light as it can get! Our oldest granddaughter is named Alissa, and her home has an Alexa. When her mom calls out for Alissa or asks her to do something, Alexa thinks they are asking her to respond!
ReplyDeleteWe had a dog called Charlie, who always came running if I wanted Bob and shouted "Darling!" I understand you can programme in an alternative name for Alexa
DeleteI love how light is incorporated into so many religions. In my religion, it represents knowledge which dispels the darkness of ignorance. :)
ReplyDeleteAt Christmas we were given a copy of the famous Pre-Raphaelite picture "Jesus, the Light of the World"
DeleteWe have an Alexa in our house, she entertains DH in his office with music and he orders her about! I am the "Alexa" for our lights, I finally decided that it was only right to make a habit of turning off lights whenever they are not in use, and it is probably easier for me to do it than getting lots of new bulbs and going upstairs to visit Alexa and get her to do it!
ReplyDeleteI'm amused by the idea of a visitor coming to your house to see your DH, and you saying "Oh he's busy, Alexa is upstairs entertaining him"
Delete😀
DeleteI don't really understand what or who Alexa is! But I do like subdued lighting at night and bright light in the kitchen. I enjoyed the song, it was a childhood favourite, so thank you :)
