Here is the prayer of commitment from Friday's service
Let us pledge ourselves anew
to the service of God and our fellow men and women:
that we may help, encourage and comfort others,
and support those working for the relief of the needy
and for the peace and welfare of the nations.
Lord God our Father,
we pledge ourselves to serve you and all humankind,
in the cause of peace, for the relief of want and suffering,
and for the praise of your name.
Guide us by your Spirit;
give us wisdom;
give us courage;
give us hope;
and keep us faithful now and always. Amen.
* The famous Kohima Epitaph
Those times seem impossibly distant to us here and now, but are still unbearably present in other war zones all over the world.

DeleteThose were dark times that we came out of. I pray that those in troubled and torturous areas may be delivered from their pain

DeleteA lovely prayer. Thank You. A very good article in today's Mail by Sarah Vine about her grandfather who had served in the Far East, and how he had returned a totally different man to the one he had been, but would never really talk about his experiences. Xx
ReplyDeleteI think there were many men like that - now we would call it PTSD and hopefully provide help and counselling. Back then, men were expected to keep 'a stiff upper lip' and get on with things - while inside many were genuinely scarred for life
