Hands up if you have ever stood by the window on a grey autumnal morning, with a pair of tights in each hand, and tried to work out which was black and which was navy? And then decided they were both the navy [when you actually wanted a black pair that day] A friend asked me last week if I could help her out by making some tights storage bags, so she could sort them all and keep the colours separate. She wanted 3 bags, black, navy and brown. About A4 sort of size - not too big, not too small.
Solution: I thought it would be dull to have black and navy bags, so instead I found three pieces of fabric and fastened them with black, blue and brown buttons.
A simple flat bag, the top folds over about 1½" and fastens with two button&loop closures. Here is the complete set
In case you are wondering, this is some fancy curtain fabric [Sanderson I think] which came from a sample book which my SIL gave me [thank you, D!]This pattern came in three colourways - exactly what I needed for a project like this one.
Now I am considering making myself a set for my own tights - with a fourth bag for the crazy colours [red, green, purple, turquoise etc]
The actress Una Stubbs once said she rolled her tights into balls and kept them in a pretty basket on her dressing table. I tried this for a while - but it didn't solve the black/navy problem and my basket somehow always looked untidy!
