Cash In The Attic?

Definitely Not! But I am starting the process of tidying and ordering the loft, because it has become something of a mess up there. I get down some project [eg Shed Aprons] and all the stuff is in a large plastic box. But when I return it, I realise there is another 'loft thing' - so that goes in that box. Or in a rush to tidy up because guests are coming, I put a suitcase away, without checking it is properly emptied. And then there are the bags labelled with messages like "Old greeting cards, 2022, sort these out ASAP" I wrap up well for this task, and wear sensible footwear [going up and down the loft ladder in slippers or socks is a bad idea] Here is my equipment

  • 7A rubbish bag [for rubbish!]
  • a couple of large strong bags, for stuff that needs to come down and be relocated[Charity Shop, other people, the craft cupboard etc]
  • A reel of masking tape, sharpies and a pencil - for labelling
  • A pair of scissors  - always useful
  • My tablet [to listen to the radio**]
  • My phone - in case somebody phones me, or in case I need help for some reason [eg lifting down a large item and Bob is out in the workshop] I used the phone for the picture hence its not on the table
I found an angel's tinsel halo, so put it on and felt joyful. Then there was a large freestanding mirror - redundant now we have a mirror on the wardrobe door That's going to Manchester for Steph's new house. Note the rubbish bag hanging down, gradually filling up. That empty cardboard box is for recycling, and is the THIRD one I filled in the first hour. I have decided I do not need every cardboard box which has entered the house [the new kitchen came flatpacked in over 100 boxes]

They have just announced there will be a village Yard Sale in the Spring, to raise funds for the Parish Church - so one corner of the loft is now 'possible yard sale stuff'. But my task was interrupted by an IKEA delivery lorry. We are changing the two single beds in the back room for one double. It will free up a bit more floor space. But that means as well as sorting the loft, I also have to sort out all my bedding. The singles will go to Manchester, along with their linens, [and that mirror] when we visit at Christmas.
I'm hoping to have the loft and back bedroom straight by Friday 7th when Julian comes. There is loads going on - especially Bobs 70th birthday on Tuesday.

All four grandchildren appear to be having a great half term, at Forest School and Holiday Club.
** I listened to the final episode of Jane Eyre, a programme about Men's Sheds, and a 'Limelight' thriller on BBCSounds.

Always in my loft I hang the paper heart which turned up in a loft sort about 30 years ago. It has hung in three different lofts, but the message holds true. My loft, and the world in general, may appear to be in a chaotic mess sometimes - but there is One who is watching over us, and his love never fails.

  2. I love the idea of you donning a halo while tidying the loft. You deserve one!

  3. Hope you took everything you needed up into the loft without needing to go back for something - that's what would happen to me!
although I can't get the loft ladder down here so have never been up there - it's not boarded out anyway, just lots of insulation I've been told

    1. Ours was ½ boarded up. I'm trying not to add more flooring, as I know I'd just fill it

  4. The attic in our house is full; I tell myself it's a substitute for loft insulation...

Regardless of the temperature, when I go up/down steps or climb on the kitchen counter to clean the windows - it's the easiest way - I do so in my bare feet as they stick to most things. Better cold trotters than broken bones.

    1. Bare feet are good, but not on my cold metal ladder!

  6. A busy bee indeed. We have nothing in our loft we have always tried to keep them free of things as they seem to turn into glory holes. Our last house which had a huge loft space had a statue of a saint in it (could not identify the saint despite research) we just left him there to look after the house and any future owners. 7. Thanks for the inspo (as the young 'uns would say!). Although I seem to be perpetually getting rid of stuff, I never seem to make a hole in the piles of excess punctuating my life!! Must try harder! You're always so busy! I had to return my new Ikea mattress. Although it was comfy and I liked the height of it, I just couldn't deal with the heat it generated! Then my daughter-in-law found it in the bargain basement part of our local Ikea (she sent me a pic and I recognised the packing tape I used to wrap it up!) with £100 off so someone definitely got a bargain!

    2. Old mattress, new mattress topper! It'll do in the meantime!I've checked every mattress that Ikea sell. They all have a layer of foam underneath the cover which was the problem for me!

  9. I've not been in our loft. I'm not very good with ladders and heights. Well done for the sorting. Glad your single beds will have a new home.

  11. A sparkly halo, how lovely.
I am a veteran box hoarder but husband now intercepts most of them before I squirrel them away upstairs, he loves filling up the recycling boxes every week 😆
The paper heart, what a great reminder of what's important.

  12. We can never understand how stuff appears in our loft after we have tidied it out! I suspect. Norrie tidies it up whereas I bring the stuff down to be disposed of. Catriona

  13. My uncle said he suspected that craft materials stored under the bed will mysteriously multiply

  14. I remember the loft heart hanging up in your previous lofts. Your tinsel halo is well deserved after all that sorting and at least beds and bedding are staying in the family. Iris is having a great half term, yesterday she went to watch the Lioness's at Pride Park. Today we heard that her parents have been accepted as foster parents. Xx

    1. That heart has certainly travelled a long way! Iris' parents must be very special people - she is surrounded by a loving family, and I'm sure those other children will be loved and blessed too.

  15. I'm very lucky I have never had a loft with stuff in it, and these days I don't even have a loft. My ceilings all reach the roof. :-)
