Making Space

It has been very satisfying to declutter a few more things recently. I have seriously reduced the assorted children's toys - and this unit was almost empty. I decanted those few things, and this went to a CS Monday [having first checked the boys in Manchester do not need it]

Then yesterday my bag of surplus clothing went to a different CS.  Julian is coming on Friday, so I need to tidy the back bedroom. I suspect there will be some more stuff to go from there. It is very satisfying. Personally, I find my home grown veg bring great joy, so they are staying.

Jacob seems to like his pumpkin, and Jess is just relentlessly cheerful as she comes out of school! So many people in my family have names beginning with J [for Joy!]

Next task is to get the remaining summer clothes vacuum packed and put away in the loft.  I must sort out some baby wool - a nibling is expecting, and this great-aunt needs to get knitting...

Why does Great-aunt sound so much older than Grandmother?

  1. It's the 'Great' as we associate it with Great Grandmother, a generation higher /older.
Well done on the decluttering. I need to do some of that again.

  2. My eldest niece has always been joyful and a ray of sunshine in all our lives. As a little girl she would wake up all smiles, bounce out of bed run to the window saying with her arms wide open "Hello lovely morning" whatever the weather. She is still full of joy at 55. Your photo of Jess reminded me. Well done on more decluttering you put me to shame. Regards Sue H

  3. Love the little sentence on Japanese decluttering!
I'm impressed by Jess; my son used to fall asleep within minutes of emerging from infant school!

  5. My grandchildren are so spaced out now age 11 down to 2 so I still have to have those baby/toddler toys for a while yet, but looking forward to the day I can declutter them as they seem to have been around now forever - some are from when my two daughters were little.

  6. I gave away all our Sylvann Family stuff to my great niece. Was sad parting with it but I know she'll love it. When my Mum was expecting my youngest sister in 1967, 4 of her sisters-in-law were also pregnant that year so we ended up with Jane,Jennifer,Julie,Janice and Jillian! In some parts of USA, Grandmothers are known as 'Big Mama'!Has some power to it, don't you think though not so much of you're a small Grandma?!

  8. Our weather has been so extraordinary that I haven't put away all summer clothing. I fetched out some winter items when the weather became seasonally cold, but the switchover hasn't fully taken place yet because we have had hot days, and two were even a total record for October at 30°C!

  10. Our great nephews and nieces just call us Aunty and Uncle. As the eldest so nicely said you are great but its such a mouthful otherwise. Well done on the de-cluttering. I have a bag sitting in the landing cupboard and all charity stuff goes in there, and even though we've been here nearly a year, I'm still finding items to go. Xx

  12. Well done on the decluttering! We have another donations pick up scheduled for Monday, October 13 and I will have the maximum of 15 bags or boxes of items sitting out when they come! Much of it was what daughter decluttered.
