Tuesday was wonderfully quiet and restful. In our pjs till midday, and I spent the afternoon sitting sewing. and watching yet more TV while Bob sat in the other armchair - coughing, blowing his nose and drinking honey and lemon. [Thank you NellieGrace for the brilliant suggestion to make large quantity and keep it in a flask]
We have enjoyed all the quizzy stuff on TV these past few days [thank you Victoria, Amol, Clive and Richard] We were able to catch up with "Slow Horses" at Steph's.
And while Julian was here, we watched "The Man Who Invented Christmas" - an interesting take on the creation of Charles Dickens' classic novella. An excellent cast and clever script.
The only downside- we have been watching Miss Scarlet. That's also set in Victorian London and filmed in exactly the same Dublin streets.
And we have enjoyed sitting round playing games - an old favourite, Cluedo, and a new one, Shenanigrams. That's a Scrabble/Upwords hybrid. [Thanks Julian!]
The Klimt jigsaw is half done, rolled up to be finished next year!
Have you enjoyed any good programmes or family games this Christmas?

Why is watching Miss Scarlet a downside? (I've never seen it.)
ReplyDeleteM8ss Scarlet is a fun programme, but i kept getting distracted when Charles Dickens was walking down the same streets! Which is silly really, if they had been a contemporary programmes, I'd have no problems with them wandering about familiar London locations.
DeleteWe watched Beyond Paradise, the Pottery show and Goodbye June. I did watch some other things but they weren’t to my taste at all. Happy 2026 and hope Bob is soon better. Catriona
ReplyDeleteThe trailer for Goodbye June looked a bit too sad for me
DeleteWe have really enjoyed all the quiz programmes as we normally watch quiz Monday's with relish, this extended fun has been right up our street. To be honest we haven't really watched anything else except the King's Speech. We have played lots of Scrabble, and taken part in a couple of festive family quizzes organised by our eldest son which have been hilarious. Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy 2026. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteI agree about the extra quizzes being fun
DeleteHappy New Year x
ReplyDeleteYou too
DeleteAgree with the Christmas Carol film - very clever.
ReplyDeleteI've never watched Miss Scarlett so will need to check that out.
Several new series of crime things starting soon too.
Thank you for writing through 2025 - always enjoy reading your posts everyday
Thank you Sue, thank you for your posts too!
DeleteLast night's losing alumni on UC lost miserably!! I absolutely loved Slow Horses! That last scene with Gary Oldman was classic! I've cancelled Apple Tv til it comes back next year! Watching West Side Story while un-deccing! Off to my youngest's later for a Chinese takeaway. One of these fine days I'll do a post on the plight of the mother-in-law, specifically the one with sons! In the meantime, a Guid New Year to you and yours.xxx
ReplyDeleteOh last night's UC was calamitous! And the Vicar didn't recognise Herod! Currently watching Kiss Me Kate. I do like musicals
DeleteI have found Christmas Television to be pretty awful, but have enjoyed some lovely Swiss train journeys and old faithful Midwives.
ReplyDeleteSome tv has been utterly rubbish!
DeleteWe like Miss Scarlet and also Miss Fisher Mysteries (maybe find on catch-up). Its set in 1920/30's Australia. Midsomer Murders has been good this time too. A lot of our viewing has been broken by OH wanting to watch football, I find something else to do. We are going to have a steak and chips night and watch something we have pre-recorded. A very Happy New Year to you and Bob and all your families. Hugs. Xx
ReplyDeleteThere is a Modern Miss Fisher too, set in the 60s.Steak and chips sound good
DeleteA good way to finish the year (apart from Bob's cold...)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely
DeleteHappy new Year! I’m sorry Bob is not feeling well. I’ve been sick since Christmas Day too. Blah!
ReplyDeleteGet well soon!
