When we were in Canterbury, I picked up some cans of iced tea to keep in the fridge. They were pleasant, but definitely a "convenience food" - at home it is much easier to make from scratch. I use this recipe from the BBC, but I skip the oranges and the mint. And use whatever sugar is to hand.
It is lovely to relax out in the summerhouse, with a good book and a carafe of luscious lemony tea. Whatever you do, do not get dehydrated, friends! What is your go-to cool drink on a hot day?
Just cold filtered water from the jug in the fridge.

ReplyDeleteOne alternative is to get hold of some Cleavers /Goose Grass and after giving it a quick wash, put it into your carafe and fill it with water. Refrigerate for a day and then remove the Goose grass and it tastes like Cucumber water but has health benefits. Google it to see what those are

DeleteSomewhere I learned that leaving a teabag in a pint of water overnight was the best way of making cold tea; infusing rather than boiling makes it less bitter. I use green tea for this.

DeleteI like Robinson's orange and pineapple cordial, or water with a sprig of mint in it and a slice of lime too, if I have any. I was recently served Greek peach tea and oh, my goodness, it was delicious!

DeleteI just drink water for a cold drink but I do drink lots of green tea with a slice of lemon and lemon and ginger tea as my go to hot drinks when it is warm I find them very refreshing. The best iced tea I have ever had was in the US not overly sweet and very refreshing. Regards Sue H

ReplyDeleteCold tea is good, I keep forgetting to drink my mug full when it is hot. Loose leaf tea doesn’t go scummy like tea bag tea.

DeleteI am not a fan of iced tea; tea, for me, must be a hot drink. I drink plain water, iced or not; for the most part and lemonade every now and then. :)

DeleteThat took me down memory lane. My late grandmother used to keep a jar of the Lipton's lemon tea and it didn't really taste of lemons or tea but tasted very strongly of *something* that could probably clean brass. It reminds me of happy summers spent in her garden. Thank you.

DeleteI'm like Sue and Kezzie, I just drink plain cold water, preferably from the fridge. In the hot weather I was putting plastic bottles of water in the freezer, then taking them out with me to drink. Cold water with lumps of ice in it was lovely on those boiling hot days. Xx

DeleteSugar free squash is our favourite. In the UK Robinson's peach and raspberry, just peach flavour in France. Very refreshing.
