So the new bed arrived on the IKEA lorry [and yet again Bob's M&S card got temporarily blocked because it was a 'suspicious transaction'!] We have dismantled the single beds. The frames are out in the workshop, and we slid the mattresses under the new bed [this one is higher] I have washed and sorted bedding to go to Manchester. Each bed will have a mattress protector, duvet, and linens. To reduce space in the car when we transport them, I've put them in vacpac bags.
I use these vacpac bags for all my spare linens, and for my stored summer clothes.
You can't see it in the photo, but there's a sheet of paper in there, listing what is inside.
I've reduced my own bedlinen collection, and have 2 sets of linens for each of the double beds here. One is UK kingsize [150cm] , the other is Euro king [160cm] I have embroidered K and K+ on the fitted sheets, because i do not want to get them muddled.
Why do so many manufacturers fail to put sizes on the labels?
Do you use vacpac bags for storage? What is in yours?
I'm planning a special meal this evening for Bob and me - it is his 70th birthday tomorrow

Those bags sound brilliant!!! I've never used them but probably should! My Summer clothes (&then conversely, my Winter clothes) live in 2 big suitcases in the spare room cupboard when not in use. They take ups lot of space!
ReplyDeleteAre the old duvet covers going to a charity shop or do you have a more cunning repurpose e for them?
The covers are going to Steph with the beds. You could shrink all your cosplay outfits into much smaller spaces if you used these
DeleteMy new Ikea mattress arrived via white van man x 2, one of whom asked to use my loo which I politely refused, considering they had stopped at 5 other places and must have passed a few public toilets an route before they got to me that morning. I also found it interesting that it cost me £40 for delivery but only £25 to return it? I've tried those vac bags but the valves always seem to come loose. I think John Lewis and The White Company do sizes on their labels.
ReplyDeleteNever had WC sheets [ bad appreviation, after your loo comments!]
DeleteHappy birthday to Bob for tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThose vac packs are brilliant.
How is the loft sorting going? At any time you are free and fancy a trip to Wales, mine could do with a sort out๐x
Loft sort currently on hold!
DeleteGood point about the sizes on labels. I hadn't really thought about that before.
ReplyDeleteI don't use vacpac bags, but I have used them in the past. Mine didn't last very long, but they were cheap ones, so perhaps that was why.
My original £shop ones split. These cost a bit more, but are lasting well
DeleteOur spare bed is an IKEA double and was comfortable to sleep in during our bedroom decorating. We use the vacuum bags for storing bedding too and have had a few incidents of the bag inflating and jamming the shelf where we store the duvets and linens. I’m not pleased with IKEA this week as you can see on my blog. Catriona
ReplyDeleteNow I am wondering if the bags of sheets ought to be in that bottom drawer. If they inflate...
DeleteMany happy returns to Bob tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI do wonder why Ikea should set up alarms on a card! It's a well known name.
The fault is with M&S , I think their systems are over sensitive
DeleteHappy Birthday to Bob!! Enjoy his birthday celebration!
ReplyDeleteSpinning out the celebrations all week...
DeleteHappy birthday to him!

DeleteYes, I have out of season things in vac packs under my lift up bed. There are the not in use summer weight duvets and lighter duvet covers currently there, and my lighter weight and paler coloured Summer tops. All with reversible paper notes stating what's in there. Things rotate year after year, so I thought the signs should be able to as well. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh what a clever idea to have reversible signs!
DeleteOne thing to be wary of with these is to not leave things like duvets compressed for long periods of time. Our daughter had an expensive down sleeping bag which went into a compression sack for camping so it would take much less space in her backpack. Once she left it in the sack because she was going to be camping the next weekend. Then she got sick and couldn’t go. She forgot about the sleeping bag in the sack in her closet and when she discovered it a couple of months later the sleeping bag was permanently crushed and would not “reloft”. If you keep down (or similar synthetics) crushed they become permanently compressed.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that tip - the duvets are only being compressed for the journey to Manchester in December. But having read your tip, I may release the vacuum until we are about to depart!
ReplyDeleteI use those bags for spare linen and duvets. I've just started listing contents on a slip of paper and slipping it inside - I got caught out recently, had to open several because I'd forgotten where a particular item was, the suction effect makes stuff unrecognisable doesn't it๐
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
It does
