Yesterday, the sewing machine came out for the first time this year. I was mending a couple of jackets and shortening a pair of trousers for my neighbour. And I finally got round to doing a job I have been muttering about for around 10 years.
Then I found a much nicer jumper in a CS. It is from Next, and 'winter scene' rather than specifically Christmas.
But there was s problem- it was polo-neck and there was just too much of the neck for. I rolled it over a couple of times to be more comfortable, but it was always a bit lumpy. And it did that every Christmas [that picture was taken post lockdown, when I needed a haircut] Last week I washed and de-pilled the jumper. And yesterday I finally turned the excess to the inside, and using my sewing machine made it into a comforatble crew neck. This looks and feels much better. Why didn't I do this years ago?? My other post Christmasd mending task was a double hip operation on the little wooden millennium teddy bear. He somehow came off the tree and got involved in some sort of role play with the grandchildren. The elastic holding his legs in place snapped. I suspect it was perished - he's 24 years old after all. But it was an extremely fiddly job requiring a curved needle and a magnifying glass. He is fixed now!So that's all the Christnas stuff dealt with [apart from trimming the pictures from 2024's cards to make cards and tags for 2025]
Neat work, and I love the Christmas jumper. But if you wanted a woollen one, why, if you started knitting who knows but it might be finished for Christmas 2025?!
ReplyDeleteHo Ho Ho!! My problem is that I do frequently put my personal project aside to do the more immediate repair for family or friends . Before you know it, January has turned into November and only the back of my sweater has been knitted!!
DeleteIt's funny how we let little repairs go undone for years, isn't it?
ReplyDelete😉 and I mutter "it's on my list of jobs, I'll get round to it eventually" then do something else. ..
DeleteGet a granddaughter to make the tags! That's what I did yesterday. They love the assembly line, i.e.pinking shears, hole puncher, piece of strong or wool for attaching.
ReplyDeleteI had the two girls making Thank You cards in early December, so they were all ready to stand off to aunties etc after Christmas gifts received!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how one detail can make all the difference. The sweater is awesome and a great find.

DeleteI love that your girlies send thank you cards for the presents received. It's a beautiful thing to do and the recipients will gratefully received tge

DeleteLovely neat work, on both counts. Isn't it nice to get these little jobs that we tend to put off out of the way too.

DeleteLittle wooden teddy is adorable and I am glad you fixed him ready for next Christmas. JanF

DeleteI made my gift tags out of the Christmas cards, punched the holes but not threaded up yet. I've spent the day cleaning windows, inside of 2 cars, I came out richer by 23p, and taking my Shark to bits to clean everything, the filters are drying on the radiator. Have a good week. Hugs Xx
ReplyDeleteI tidied my bedside cupboard and came away £1:22 richer!!
ReplyDeleteMy crafty friend came to visit today and we made a little mouse and a card for a 100th birthday. We also had lots of lovely chat and some coffee and biscuits. Catriona

DeleteYay for fixing the problem and making the garment more comfortable. I did exactly the same when I bought a checkered top from the CS last September. Sounds like you have well and truly put Christmas to bed xx
ReplyDeleteCS bargains often just need a little tweak to make them more wearable. But it needs to be done promptly
DeleteThe sweater looks much nicer with a crew neck, as well as being more comfortable for you. As for wee teddy, good fixing!

DeleteI have a few of those very small jobs to do this week. Those that just keep getting left.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with your jumper.
I need a to-do list of "jobs that keep getting left"
