Getting rid of books is HARD. Some books are too specialist for the Charity Shop. But I have been using the Ziffit company for years, and find them very reliable. You sort out the books, check their ISBNs to see if the company will buy them - and then parcel them up and off they go. And the money comes through within a couple of weeks. [You do not have to have the app on your phone, you can just type ISBNs into the website] You do not pay postage - and you can either drop the box off at a collection point or they will send a courier to pick it up. from your door
In the last couple of months, I have found two friends who didn't know about Ziffit. Our Rector, organising a Bank Holiday Book Sale, was delighted to get £100 for some books which didn't sell. Another retiring-and-downsizing friend was equally delighted to be able to get rid of some technical books.
Less than a dozen books got me £5. And I can keep or donate that money. Be aware though - they won't take bestsellers, too many copies in circulation! and tatty, damaged books won't pass inspection. They also take DVDs and CDs. [check the boxes- I once sent in a CD set, and one case was empty, so no payment on that]But this frees up shelf space [for more books?!] and is better than going into paper recycling.
If you do try is out, here's a reliable promo code which will add to your trade payment Angela's Referral Code
I did try this one, and when I typed in the ISBN, I got a surreal message which said Not Buying it, Levine, Judith, sorry, not buying it
I've used ziffit on your recommendation. I usually wait until I've got a couple of heavy books, as then a courier will collect. Do you get the payment paid directly into your bank account? I've selected cheque payment which is in very small print in the options.
ReplyDeleteI used to get cheques until the local bank closed, now it goes promptly straight to my account
DeleteMy eldest Granddaughter was telling me last week that her Nat 5 study books that she was selling on Vinted weren't budging so I told her about Ziffit and she tried it and managed to shift them on there! She was delighted! I'll send her your code for future use. Thanks Ang.
ReplyDeleteI am so pleased, hope her studies go well
DeleteResults on Tuesday, eek? Think she'll have done well though, she's a studier!
DeleteI'm sure she's a hard worker, if she's followed her Gran's example.
DeleteI have just filled some boxes with around 50 books for a community book swap. We are changing our study to be a more useful space so decide to let go of lots of fiction books that we have hung on to for years, Hopefully , someone will collect them later today and the rest will go into our new bookcase which is coming on Tuesday. The old IKEA bookcase has been altered to take the large factual books- mainly crafts- and I will make a small runner for the damaged top. We are sitting here with the heavy curtains shut against the morning sun -roll on next week when the new blinds should arrive. Catriona
ReplyDeleteNew windows, new blinds...and new space!!
DeleteAlways good to turn unwanted stuff into cash 😀
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
👍
DeleteI thought perhaps Ziffit was only in the UK, but I have found it in the US, too. Thanks for reference.
ReplyDeleteThat's good to hear
DeleteI wish we had a company like that here. I usually donate books to the libraries for their book sales, or I have taken some to the local charity shop, but I find that the latter is so small that they cannot find space for everything, including books. In the past some perfectly good books, including some I donated, ended up in the dump recycle area. They now send some of their excess donations to a charity organization in a bigger town.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame when they get dumped
DeleteWorth knowing! I'm not v good at getting rid of books but do sometimes! Kx
ReplyDeleteI am pleased they will go on being readl
DeleteI have made quite a bit of money over the last couple of years while we were moving houses on Ziffit, and yes any technical or reference books make good money. I 'helped' Alan downsize his technical library before we left Wales, he hadn't referred to some of them in years. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThey often pay well for technical books
