Saying Goodbye

Thank you for all your good wishes for Bob. The meds have kicked in quickly and he is recovering well [I know this because his appetite has returned!] This is a good thing, because we are both due to be at funerals today - he is going to one locally [a friend from Men's Shed] and I am driving over to Yarmouth for my cousin Peter's funeral. Unfortunately both services are at 1pm.
My cousin Daphne, his older sister, has been helping him so much in recent years since his wife died suddenly. Fortunately she and her husband Cliff live close by. Cliff has had two other family bereavements since Christmas

Whilst it will be good to meet up with my cousins, it is for a sad reason. I hope the love and support of family and friends will be a comfort to all those who are bereaved at this time.

  2. I always think a 'good' funeral is one where there is a lovely opportunity for a family reunion, and where friends and relations who don't often see each other meet and renew their connections to each other. I hope both funerals, although sad occasions, are redeemed by renewed relationships and happy memories.

    1. At Peter's mother's funeral, some years ago, Daphne brought a huge folder of family photos she'd found at my aunts house. She said we were all welcome to take any we wanted. There was one I'd never seen before, of my Mum in her school swimming team.( As a teenager, before her illness, mum was very good at sports, but she never really spoke about it later) she looks just like me. Daphne gave me the photo. Reminiscing together is important

  6. Glad to hear that Bob is on the mend.
The funerals I have been to recently have been quite happy affairs. It's good to meet up with people who care about the deceased and that we might not have seen for many years.

  8. When I went to my friend's funeral on Tuesday it was lovely to see her family and half sister, and friends from our days in infant school, but we all said we wished it was under different circumstances. Glad to read Bob is feeling better, my OH is suffering with his sinuses, so salt sprays are much in use. Xx

  9. So good to know that Bob has his appetite back, - always a positive sign!
Condolences to you both on the loss of special people in your lives. There have been a lot of deaths in our area, to the point where I thought there would not be enough room on the post office, church or pharmacy window for more notices! I will be singing in the funeral choir at our church tomorrow, and again next Friday. We sang last Thursday, too!

    1. We had John Denver and The Shadows on CD at the service. But I do like live music!
